5M-E (MX62, MA61) is smaller than 7M-GE (From memory).
Some help I hope

Hey,
I'm in need of a new fan blade pretty quickly and i need to know what fan blades can be swapped over from different models/engines to the 7M. I'm thinking early-mid 80's cressida's and crown with the 5M engines but would like confirmation please.
Thanks
Sam

Alrighty, do you know if they still bolt up or not though? Or are the hubs actually smaller?

the bolt pattern on the front of the water pump should be identical... so you could swap complete blade/clutch assemblies potentially.
Yeah as said it bolts up the same, just the OD of the blades is smaller (I think the hub is identical, I do know it bolts up.)Originally Posted by Negative Boost

A 1GGTE one is probably the same too as I had the same situation vs my 1GEU one.

Thanks very much guys for your quick help! I found a 5M fan blade down at the wreckers for $10 and it fits perfectly as wilbo said. The only real difference is, the 5M is a 7 blade straight cut fan and the 7M is a 10 blade curved fan. I'll post some pictures later on tonight.
Cheers again

Only the 7MGTE is 10 blade.
The 7MGE is 7.
Not sure about the curved vs straight though.

7MGTE blades will also sit closer to the radiator in an MA61, I put a 10 bladed GTE fan in and wasnt comfortable with it's proximity to my radiator, so I changed to a 7 bladed 7MGE job which proved to give me nearly an extra 10mm clearance!
Apparently our yankie friends have modified GTE fans to fit better by slicing a bit of the blades, but I couldnt be arsed and the 7 blade fan worked fine anyway

Umm, dude, if my 1GGTE one fits you can have it.
Just a touch too close, i had to find out the hard way! Thanks for the information too. Does the 5M fan in the picture below look similar to the 7MGE fan?Originally Posted by whatthe?
Thanks for the offer stefan, might have a look at it when i come around next time. For the time being this 5M fan blade will suffice.Originally Posted by Stefan
And some pictures of the 5M vs 7M fan blades and damage pics of the fan.

You can see in this photo that the 7M blades curve above the center 'hub' of the fan. Whereas the 5M blades sit flat and do not protrude above the 'hub'. This is what the yankies must trim off as Matt stated above.

Thanks again for the help guys. I'll spread some rep around to those that havn't recieved any when it lets me!

Yep, that 5M fan looks exactly like the 7MGE unit. Yeah, it's the curvy sticking out bit the seppos trim off to make them fit

Awsome news. I'll also be re-doing my lower radiator mount as that didn't help the cause either. I can bring the bottom of the radiator approximately another 15mm closer to the frame.

Just as a bit of almost useless info, there is a 12-blade version of the 7m-gte fan, I have one at home. Unfortunately it's busted from when it came into contact with my radiator during an acco. Obviously the 7m fans with the curved blades will flow much more air than the old, smaller 5m one.
Just updating this thread a little with the 1GGTE fan thrown in.

And the measurements taken for the fans. One thing to note is that the tips that are raised above the fan hub on the 7MGTE + 1GGTE fan are only 5mm higher than the normal 5M blades.
