Default ADR 15 - Demisting of Windscreen

I was just reading through ADRs about reomval of the heaterbox

    This is what they say
ADR 15 - Demisting of Windscreen

The function of this Australian Design Rule is to specify requirements for standards for equipment to maintain the windscreen clear of 'Mist' so that driver's 'Forward' vision is not obscured.

This rule ceased to have effect from 1 January 2005.
the fact that the rule has ceased to have affect does that mean i can tear out the mother and not worry about it?
i was planning to use a stick on eletric demister if i had to use one, an may use one regardless

    Not sure dude,

I find it funny though as in some cars the heater was optional, and in all cases I find that cold air (aironditioning is best) is more effective in demisting the windscreen.

In some situations if you turn the heater on, the sudden influx of warm air can pretty much instantly fog up the entire windscreen.

    I couldnt find anythign relevant,
Doesnt the NCOPS more of a grey area,
asin stuff you get engineered and aslong as the engineer thinks its safe,
The only refernace i could find was on a checklist eg, does it have a demister? (yes no or NA)

i will keep a stick on electric one handy (like what they use on a rear window)
if the engineer wants one it wont be hard to put it in

you're hardly going to put a stick on one on your windscreen though?

Its not just the engineer you have to worry about, demister is a rego item.

    why not?
alot of cars use them, it is legal.
and it would work a hell of alot better than a 35 year old heater box design,
that yesterday left me stopping at safeway too buy napkins to rub my windscreen at each set of lights

Well personally it would give me the shits looking through my front windscreen with that on there? Plenty of cars run them at the rear, but the front?

most of them i have seen on track cars,

There is no way the origional heater box is goin in, if i have to fab up some sort of blower system to blow fresh air over the windscreen i will do that, but there will be no way the origional will go back in,
I have spent all this time researching and gathering stuff to improve amost every aspect of the car and im not relenting yet

I'll be interested to see what solution you come up with (if its not sticking one on ) - my heaterbox is not present currently, i'd be tempted to rig up something different, and/or route aircon to the screen..

If you find your heater doesn't demist very well, it means your windscreen is filthy.
Its time to get out the windex because you'll find its covered in oil.
With perfectly clean glass on the inside, the heater works just as well as the aircon

    As for the NCOPs,

Straight from my thread (I can't remember which volume it came out of though)

    cos you have greasy mitts

get some windex or whatever (not no-name brand ) give ti a gooood clean, then a gooood rinse... then, to be sure, get some alcohol or similar solvent, and wipe it down to get the last of your greasy fingerprints off...

    clean glass = good.

the condensation occurs partially because there are small bits of crap that act as initiators for the condensation...

I have had a quick brainstorm,
and come up with a smaller lighter less "clunky" system which i may investigate
im just soo against having the old system in there

maybe you could find why you have so much moisture in there....
perhaps you have a window leak?

demister = good when it is working the way it is meant to....

or have a look at more modern versions.. just removing it is nto the answer
