What are peoples experiences with catco catalytic convertors? Im running a 3inch 'high flo' one on my aw11 turbo, and suspect its having flow issues as i wind the boost up around 20psi.

I dont know what brand my cat converter is but whenever I hit the rev limiter little glowing bits of it come flying out of the rice cannon![]()

are you really ythat concerned if it cuts down emissions a lot? Flow wise, most cats are very similar. It is mufflers where you get your quality. Gonzos are teh best.

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
I dont give a toss about emissions. I only run one so the popo dont bust a nut in my arse. And its getting extremely hot, ie glowing, which is a hazard as it burnt interior carpet.

LOL then id say "having flow issues" is a serious understatement!Originally Posted by Ghetto-AW11

If it's getting that hot, sure you don't have tuning issues?
Its a little bit of everything, but im still skeptical about the catco cat.... That wasnt while driving it was while the car was stationary on a dyno.

ive used heaps of the standard ones with no trouble , im going to use one of the 3 in high flows next ,and see how it goes

we use catco's at work, never had an issue with them yet,![]()
best thingis to get a cat shell.....or if its to restrictive go for a larger 3.5 or 4.0 inch, (but in that size they are VERY pricey!)

Things get hotter on dynos than in real life.

No oil and not running rich. But still, i took the car for a 15min drive, a bit of boost etc. got it home, felt the inside of the boot and it was quite hot to touch in such a short time

Is your exhaust just not properly thought out? Remember turbo exhaust parts DO get hot, and putting them close to other things with no shielding means things DO get cooked. Ask every goose that's fited a fulsik exhaust manifold to their SR20 and wondered why funny things happen to wires and hoses. I won't even mention Z32's...
Have you still got your heatshields on?
If you cat is blocked your car doesn't run at all, well mine didn't and I did an engine conversion before i found out![]()
All stock heat shields remain, shiny, the exhaust runs the same path as per standard, its all 3 inch and thought out properly. Its pushing 195rwkw @ 19psi.

stick a thermocouple on it when driving around.. it should be at least 400deg inside to work, but if it is getting red hot (around 600deg) then you have tuning issues...
it is probably worth adding a second layer of thin heat shield.
as for cat. the easy way would be to tap a fitting before and after cat (with long metal and then silicon line) and check the actual pressures. if you have significant pressur eloss, then think about a different one.
but surely someone should have sorted that out when they built your motor?

its a 3inch highflow cat, it was chosen by the engine builder who also made the exhaust. As soon as i saw it was a catco i got concerned because ive heard they are not the best, It works great at 15psi, but as you add more boost, it starts to drop off bigtime. I'll let you know the results over the weekend.
