    Default Speedo GA61 haywire...

    Hey guys,

My speedo has for a long time been a little innacurate at say 100km/h but it was only occasionally, and never bad enough to not know my speed.

But this morning, real cold, not sure if it helped, but after I started it there was a real weird whinning noise esp when i turned the wheel activating the PS, it seemed to be louder. Let it warm up for a while then drove off.

It dissapeared, maybe doned out from exaust, It wasnt affecting the engine I dont think. Anyway it was at first going real high, 80-90, bouncing, then retured to normal functioning, but 10kms faster, ie, It said 70 when I was going 60, but was still a little jumpy.

Does this mean a horrible dash disassembly? Or is it just a case of adjusting the cable?
I assume It would be the same setup as a RA60-65, Im guessing not many MA61 owners here have the non Digital Cluster.

is it cable driven? if so the speedo wobbles in most cases when there getting near the ed of there life! which means dropping out the cluster if you can get to it from under and changing the cable.
you might get luck and its a two piece one so you can just change one end.

electical setup it will hopefully be the gearbox drive unit.

    Thanks mate,

Yeah it is cable driven, and it did seem to get worse when I turned the wheel I guess draining the power maybe affecting it.

    Ill have a look tommorow.

One other thing, I just cant figure it out, the engine is a 1GGEU, and when I turn it over only really since winter, it keeps trying to start itself reguardless if I pull the Ignition all the way to off. Then it usually stops itself after a while. I wait a second, then it starts usually perfectly.

Is this a Japanese engine thing for cold starts? Can it sense cold?? Or more likely a dodgey computer or what? Its quite odd.

    a) Check your power steering fluid level.

    b) Replace the speedo cable. If that doesn't work, you'll need a new dash.

    c) You have a wiring problem somewhere.
