oh, fwiw: the 45mm main shaft cranks are cruise control crank arms off some late model falcon. all other cranks and linkages etc are barstardised versions of the original rb26dett equipment.

the cable idea would work fine if the right amount of spring tension is kept on the shafts, and would take up the least room because you could put the pedal cable on the pulley closest to the driver, and it'd be neat.

also, you could put them as close or far apart as you like, but a bigger pulley would probably be more accurate than a little one.
