ohh ill add that ive gotten info that either a 3s-gte or 7m-ge timing belt will fit.but someone with 1g knowledge let me know
Ok its obvious i live in the U.s tampa florida to be exact and i have a 3rd gen 1ggte. lately iv been noticing some noise coming from the cam cover area which has been identified as the timing belt..no biggy. but my question is since i really dont feel like importing a belt and paying outragous prices, what other toyota or non toyota timing belt could be used on this motor? im fairly sure the a/c,altenator,p/s same as 7m etc. any help greatly appreciated..thanks

I doubt any of those two will fit (correct me if i'm wrong though). There is a Dayco belt for it, costs AU$80 or therabouts. That's about the same as a Toyota one though.

Frank is correct the belt from toyota is less than AUS$100.

i bought a genuine Toyota jobbie within the last month for my 3rd gen 1G-GE and got change from AU$50 [trade price]. i expect the extra 20% for non trade should make it about AU$65

well heres a nother question? well it wasnt answered yet ? is thereany possiblity of using a not toyota model timing belt , like people over her using Isuzu Trooper 2.6l timing belts on ther 1jz's ? cause that would be the best bet for me right now
From memory, I don't remember the Dayco belt for the 1G matching up with any other engines in their catalog. The specs of the belt are written on it aren't they? i.e. the number of teeth, the width of the belt and the profile? Go digging

You could use some panty hose . Toyota GUARANTEE their belts for 150000km [90000mile] and they are not expensive.Originally Posted by US1GGTE

Have you actually checked the price/availability of the belt part number yet? or of the Dayco belt suggested earlier?

Won;t your local toyota dealership get one?????
All my 1G parts come from my local dealer... they don't care...
Some kind of BMW
'97 Hilux Surf SSR-X LTD
..::VVTi 1UZ-FE::..
well i could try but my local toyota saw the motor and asked me what the fuck it was? hahahah .... i think it can be tightened for now ....it seems loose..like its hitting the top of the cam cover at idle, doesnt do it during normal driving... ill try to source something out
Don't worry, for most dealerships the problem is the same over here. If you tell them it's an import and it's a GA70 Supra, or give them the part numbers directly, they usually aren't too bad.
