Yeah most likely, at least from other events if anything. Any particular reason? The red one has a 13B in it!

Rosey, check out our website, there are some nice pics of those 2 particular champion Celica's ... lol

Guys, our Cooloola Festival of Cars is coming along in leaps and bounds ..... you need to keep an eye on our postings as there is somewhere in there .... the info on our last Motorkhana for the year .. entry is now open to the first 35 people only ... but there is a car show being held also .. if you can't or don't get in for the Motorkhana. We are also chasing Sponsors for several categories ..... any interest from your club to sponsor "Best Toyota"?

Please let me know through our Forum so I can keep an eye on everything ... saves me chasing up each and every car club ... this IS going to be a big event and we are in discussions about the possibility of camping on the Saturday night, if not at Roadcraft, then across the road at the AFL grounds ... it is licensed ... lol

PS, we will have a Breath Analyser and a policy of 0.00BAC applies to the skidpan.

    Cheers

G'day all, I need to let everyone know that the lovely people ar Roadcraft Driver Education have forced us to pull the pin on the car show and the sound off. At this time, we are dtill continueing with the Motorkhana, but I can confirm that the current management of the facility are considering ending our agreement to run motorkhana's in the future. They have decided that we can nolonger utilise their public liability insurance and that we must get our own, for a minimum of $10mil. Such insurance is difficult to get when it comes to motor sports events, there are usually lots of restrictions and a massive cost. I am currently in discussion with 3 companies, looking for the best deal, not only for our club, but also for competitors. I really don't want to force people to wear helmets and such if I can avoid it, there is a cost in people purchasing them and it will decrease the market that we currently have. There are many who say that they would still do the Motorkhana's with helmets, which I appreciate, but that doesn't change my desire to try to keep that out of the equation. I am working on developing a business plan and making suitable contacts to work towards obtaining a significant parcel of land within the Gympie region in order to build in stages, a Multi Purpose Motor Sports Precinct. This will in some respects, compete against that which is provided at QR and on the other hand, could potentially compliment their provision of motor sports. We need more than just one real place that meets the needs of the motoring public, competition rules .... lol. We will have a slightly different target group, with our aim being focussed on the average driver and the average car, not the big $$ massive horsepower numbers that QR really like to attract. I will soon be developing a petition and forwarding it to all car clubs (that I can find) and the petition will most likely be available in all Autobarn stores across SE Qld, with the help of our local store. There is always more info on our site, so if you want to stay up to date, check it out, otherwise, I will leave posts here every so often.

    Cheers

    man that sucks.

If i remeber rightly, Chris Davey was once pushing for a motorsport complex on the sunshine coast. I dont know how far he got, but it may be worth hitting him up for ideas.

is the said motor sport complex you are looking into goin to be privately funded or through the govenment?

Cool Cool, any idea how I find this Chris Davey?

Ahhhh funding ...... if I had enough I would fund it myself ..... but alas, I am but a mere servant of society and don't make a whole lot of money ... only in the 5 figere bracket... not the 6 or 7 numbers......

I will be chasing money from the government and business...... this is going to be a difficult road but it is one I believe that we must travel to try to ensure that we have somewhere to go and not end up dragging our cars up and down our local streets and highways. People get killed doing that shit.

Cool, thanks for that, I do believe that we have seen him at one of our Motorkhana's ... will chase him up right now and see what he says when he is able to get in contact with me.

    Thanks again

Thanks Wilbo, but I am currently providing all of the info for insurance to the owners? of Winton Raceway, they are called AASA insurance and they are likely to be our insureres, they are heaps cheaper than CAMS and with a lot less hassle, their philospy is to "bring affordable motorsport back"

I have been put onto these guys by a bloke in Victoria .... have been talking with people all over Aus trying to get the whole thing sorted so that we can continue with the Motorkhana's and eventually have our own skidpan and complex to run it from.....

    Here i am (Thanks Biggo)

I attended some meetings years ago to try and get something started for the Sunshine Coast area. Other people that attended were Jeff Barnes of Barnes High Performance, KV from KV Racing (orange camaro), some representatives of the go kart clubs and Peter Slipper.

At the time it seemed very promising but once again nothing eventuated. They were looking at land near Coolum.

Also, there were petitions going around a few months ago to get a motor sport complex on the Sunshine Coast. I signed one at ARB. Apparently, the guy who started them is named RED ZX and is on www.coastcars.net. I have been meaning to get in contact with him for quite some time.

There is a very strong case to put forward regarding a motor sport complex in our growing region and if the government were serious about saving lives they would be putting money towards it. Unfortunately, with the changes at Mt Cotton with noise and their stance on drifting and now an insurance issue with Gympie it doesn't look good in my opinion.

I don't really have much experience with getting these things off the ground but if there is anything I can do, let me know

    Chris

BTW I was looking forward to the sound off. Haven't competed in one of them for years!

    Daryl,

that's a real shame to hear about the event being pulled from under you...

this seems to be the nature of motorsport these days (land-owners getting twitchy when it comes to committing to a deal) ... are there any legitimate reasons behind the withdrawal of support?

We have kept listing your event in our club magazine calendar, hoping that club members would make an individual effort to go up - and at the last meeting, some did say they'd make the trek up to watch and/or compete. They know to contact you at Autobarn.

We also asked people to contact your club directly to volunteer help for the day - as of the last club meeting (tuesday just gone) no-one had said they would volunteer but for toyota owners - a good decision is one left til the last minute?

Also - talking of motorsport venues ... The Historic Racing Club also lost access to a parcel of land in Kilkoy they were going to build a track on - at the last minute, the owner of the land was convinced to withdraw from a contract when a Sydney-based lawyer came up with the bright idea of selling the land for subdivision (tho WTF would live on a quarter-acre block out in the middle of no-where?) ... rumour mill had the development costs and resulting sale being less of a return than a straight sale to the HRCC.

FWIW: i think QRW is also a member of the AASA - hence the relateively cheap QRW or AASA-track-only licences they offer for sprint days

    cheers and good luck,
    Charles.

    Thanks Charles,

As you know, I don't think that there has been a Motorkhana for the last 3 years where some of your members have not turned up and we thank you for that support.

It is becoming more and more apparent that the reasoning behind such changes at this facility are nothing more than a cash grab which disappoints us greatly. We were warned that there would be a small increase in our hire fees, well in just one week that increase has gone from a 50% increase to a 150% increase, plus we need our own insurance as they have altered theirs so we can NOT ever run under theirs again which enabled them to reduce their costs with insurance by 40% .... this is the advice given to me by the CEO.

I am still waiting to hear back from our insurer about costs, but it will be in the vacinity of $6,000 to $8,000 going by other peoples figures ...... but they aren't with AASA so with any luck we will be at the lower end of that figure.

With the projected figures for hiring, insurance, safety measures, advertising and so on, I believe we are looking at an overall cost to competitors that will be somewhere between $50 and $100 for each entry. I believe that this is FAR too expensive, particularly given the poor quality of the site. Sure, if there was power and suitable shade areas and perhaps even some seating, like the grand stand style on skids ..... but there is bugger all there, the water supply isn't even up to scratch!!!!

I am going to fight these increases in fees and any other crap they try to throw at us, but basically, we are in for some changes and I want all of those who visit our events, be that at spectators or entrants, to try to come along to this event and show your support. There will be some suggestion forms for you all to be able to fill out that we hope may help us to keep these events running into the future. This may also include a petition to see if we can get "something else" started............

just a quick update form TCC - at the last general meeting, about 4 people said they were thinking of going up to he motorkhana. They'll either contact you via your website or ring you at Gympie Autobarn.

btw, I can't make this event - i have old schoolmate (with MS) having a 40-and-still-walking party and i have to be there for her.

    Daryl.
Just a quick point of clarity Daryl, Winton Motor Raceway (WMR) is owned by Benalla Auto Club (BAC - a car club just like you), The Committee of BAC took a stance a number of years ago to do something about making motorsport fun and to make it more affordable to try to get more people involved. It was believed at that time that CAMS was not doing this at that stage.

BAC spoke to a number of owners of other race track across Australia and they were as disillusioned as BAC were with the direction that CAMS were taking motorsport in Australia.

From those initial meetings AASA was formed, AASA's day to day operations is managed by employees of WMR, but the sanctioning/insurance is supplied to many clubs, events, tracks, right across Australia. AASA is growing rapidly due their philosphy of "bringin affordable motorsport back".

There is no big corporate building filled with people, this is an organisation this is razor thin, but working their collective butts off to help Aussie motorsport stay alive, not be drowned in costs, paperwork and officialdom.

I believe that in 2005 AASA sanctioned more events that CAMS.

All this has worked in BAC/WMR's favour as it has bought more people through the gates which is helping keep a regional race track alive. It has also helped bring racing back to Calder and AIR.

More and more race tracks are coming on board as they are seeing the benifits. Remember, tracks need people through the gates, either as competitors or spectators to keep the tracks alive.

Thanks for considering AASA, I am sure you will be happy.

Just wanted to let you all know, there have been some significant improvements in the relationship between Roadcraft Driver Education and the Cooloola Car Club which means that the future of our events is looking much better. There are still a few bumps in the road, but we will sort them out and come to a point where we can get back on track, providing a great event for you all to enjoy.

    Cheers
