on the outer end there is a circlip that holds the cv joint on the shaft. its on the end of teh shaft where the splines are. you will get dirty getting that sucka of.....sorry! hehe
to put the balls back in you have to fit them into the carrier by moving it up and down and round till you get one in, then repeat to get the others in. its a bit difficult but it can be done.

   the slide hammer approach is no go,   and my vice is starting to rip up the top layer of my bench from all the rough treatment.  Does anyone know if there is a special tool or some hydraulic press attachment to pop the CV off?  I think I am either going to have to make some enquires along this line or buy a new CV, since I have a second shaft..this is just as annoying as nuts that wont undo without stripping etc....f$%#kn cars....can't live with em, can't live without em!!
