Question AE82 Twinky Air Cond problem

    Hi there,

My AE82 Twincam was once has an air-cond. After engine rebuilt the aircond pipe has been cut off for some parts installation (compressor and reciever dye all still on the car).
However, there is a control unit box inside the car called amplifier? (the wreckers people told me). That box is burnt so basicly I cant turn on the air-cond.

Now the problem is the GZE I am putting in to the car, I have no idea about its aircond. the frontcut does have compressor. but what if the amplifier or the box are not the same. Does any one have any idea on this. I believe people who converted to GZE would have over come this.

If the amplifier or box for aircond from the 4AGE works on the GZE motor as well then'll I'll need to find one and might need u guys to help. But if it doesn't the I will need your help to find one for GZE as well.

ps. The people at the air cond shop says that box or amplifier controls the idle of engine and order compressor to on/off... However I've heard a case that it could be bypass but is not recomended due to many reasons.

    So opinion plz guys.

    Thanks in advance

Just to add a little bit on:
The aircond box or amplifier I am talking about was a Denso (not sure part number since the plastic melted a bit at lable). Its black in colour and have a plugs to slot into the back of it. guess one is power and another is the controlling stuff.

Use the pump from the GZE but the amplifier (controll box) from the car.
But may be worth finding out why it meltted in the first place.

I have an A/C amplifier that I bought second hand to put in my son's car. That car has now been wrecked so I didn't get to use the part. As advised, find out why the old one burned before you connect another one. Let me know if you want the amplifier (has the wiring and connectors attached). Cheers.
p.s. the amplifier is adjustable to get the right air temp whereas the bypass is a fixed temp and may not be cold enough or may be too cold. Don't know what the other reasons against the bypass method are other than it can be used as a last resort.

Scorpion: the old one burns due to it being short circuit inside. Basicly after I change the fly wheel (before I change as well but after I change is very obvious and often happen). Basicly on the 1st gear changing to 2nd gear, if I rev up to 4000rpm and shift gear to 2nd, the rev will drop down less than 1000rpm and the bounce back up again so you can feel a little bit of jerk. I ask my mechanic he said its normal when use light weight fly wheel (lose torque). So what happen is that when I am using aircond, and I shift gear from 1 to 2 during the rev falling down, if the compressor switch back on, then the engine shuts down itself (stall). 2nd if I was cruising around and hit a red light, as soon as I step on clutch and rev drops, engine shuts. So I got one of the auto electrician (who claims to be the best) to kind of bypass and re-wire certain section so that the amplifier reads the idle rev as lower value eg. idle rev 800 normally > idle rev 500 so that engine wont shut down. It works anyway. not long after ... it burns......

So yeah I am very interested in the amplifier. Been looking for it for long and glad you have it ... i got problem with PM at the moment ... any other way I can contact you?

You can e-mail me through the e-mail link in the members details list if you want to.

I didn't see any mention of a lightweight flywheel earlier in the thread. You;ve now found out that it gives you quicker revs-up response but also quicker backoff due to the reduced inertia of the flywheel eh ?

The 100kw AE92 stock airbox has a valve on the front of it that temporarily lets additional air in (idle-up) when you take your foot off the accelerator - to stop the car from stalling when the throttle butterfly is snapped shut. Not all cars need it but I've noticed that other brands of cars do it as well. When you pull up at lights the revs go up slightly and then settle down to idle. Something like that might help.

Do you have the air con idle-up valve connected on your car ? So when you turn the air con on, the idle goes up to compensate for the extra load on the engine.

Another option is to go back to the stock flywheel or one that isn't lightened as much as yours.

    Cheers,
    Phil
