3sge - bearing sizes aftermarket/toyota oem ??

i need to get a new set of conrod bearings for a gen1 3sge, i actually am after a size "2" bearings in toyota speak.

But it seems there are none in australia and they'd have to come from japan. So i've asked mz20_2jz about some aftermarket bearings, these come in STD, .025, .25, .50 sizes.

How can i determine which size i would need, are toyota bearing sizes as listed "1" , "2" , "3" all considered Standard? and what do these numbers work out to be so i can choose the correct aftermarket bearings.

Or is there such a bee's dick difference that i'd be right to just go with aftermarket STD size?

if i need a new set of size "2" conrod bearings, but can't get them thru toyota, what bearings would i get from an aftermarket supplier?

STD 0.25. 0.50. 0.25 are the sizes availiable. I have no idea how these sizes correlate to toyota sizes.

When i measured with plastiguage the oil clearance is a mosquito's penis difference, so perhaps i shouldn;t worry so much about getting the clearances so perfect and within the 0.00022in range.

Yeah ACL are the ones i'm looking at, they come in those sizes i mentioned above, i suppose they are measuring in thickness grades. So if i go STD they must be the same as toyota "1" bearings. fingers crossed anyway.

you are getting it machined an measured? if so its easy if not you taking a big gamble with your money

I have another crank shaft installed in perfect condition no marks, not out of round. And doesn't need machining, but it does require the correct bearings. According to the service manual the conrod's have the bearing number stamped into them. They are all size "2"'s i have some old manky looking size "2" toyot bearings that i used for checking the clearances with the new crank using plstiguage. They are all very good measuring within 0.00022in but i don't enuf good ones, and i should be replacing them with new bearings anyway.

Wouldn't be a problem to jsut get a new set of correcet "2" size bearings from toyota except there are none in australia, only 3x size "3" bearings, the other sizes have to come from japan and will take ages to arrive.

So my delimma is selecting the appropriate ACL bearings.

take it to a machine shop and then get it machined for the next size! easy

no not easy, pain in the ass. If it were my motor for sure, but it's just a tired 3sge which is worth about as much as the machining would cost.

So i will measure the thickness of the toyota size "s" bearing and ask someone to measure the ACL bearings in the 3sge/gte range to find out the closest match. Best i can think of.

mate tell me the size of the jornals and ill give you the ACL number as i have the trade books here! but unless its measured by someone that knows it back to front, dont blame me

1.8898in on all of them, my digital verniers are useless for this sorta measurement, but my step dad had a much better tool and thats what they were for all journals.

acl have them in 1.8892{std} and 1.8898{.25}
