Default 20V Conversion, need to find a flywheel HELP!

Working away on my 3a -> 4a 20valve conversion and was at the point this morning where i was ready to test fit the engine and see what needed to be moved/removed from the firewall and suddenly realized that the standad flywheel/clutch&plate are TOO BIG. some quick measurements and i found this...... std 4a flywheel is 267mm in diameter, std 3a flywheel is only 250mm in diameter. Now one could expect to just swap them but alas, 8 bolt pattern on 4a and only 6 bolt pattern on 3a. So my inquiry is thus. is there an 8 bolt pattern flywheel that is only 250mm in diameter that will work with the 4a? and if not how much risk am i taking by drilling out the old 3a flywheel to fit the 8 bolt pattern, i am thinking that i can get all the current holes welded in so that i am basically starting with a blank 250mm flywheel. i would rather have something that exists to work than to start modifying. please let me know if there are any ideas. and before the suggestion is made i will tell you that changing the bellhousing or the transmission is NOT an option (its FWD but the engine is mounted as a RWD would be)

    thanks in advance

Why do you not want to change the bellhousing? A 4A RWD bellhousing should work well.

The bigport/bluetops ran smaller flywheels than the later redtop/smallport 4age's. Unsure of sizes sorry.

4AC have 6 bolt flywheels, unsure of size though, check for yourself, it may be the missing link you need for your project? For your reference, the 4AC RWD flywheel utilises a 200mm clutch - check to see if your 3A uses the same size?!? The 20V motor uses a 212mm clutch, so naturally has a larger flywheel friction surface, however the overall flywheel size is the same. I'd be reticent to redrill your flywheel, especially considering you are installing a motor that likes to rev.

Interesting project, though you're not the first - I've seen a 20V motor in FWD corolla with that kinky North South engine orientation, I've seen one here in Perth (I have no idea where your location of AB is?!?).

the differential is ahead of the bellhousing.

Sorry... It just looked amazingly like some poor, deformed child on that medical miracles show or whatever it's called... Like it's foot grew out of it's head or something.

Anyway, the only helpful thing I can offer here is to advise you not to go welding and re-drilling your flywheel.

Its a turtal G/ box (sorry tercel) they are a strange bit of gear , id be a little worried about a 20 V with this G/ box .
The input gear is not known for its brute strength and thats behind a 3A

looking around and found that 3e and 5e can come with proper size clutch, does anyone know the size and bolt pattern for these flywheels?

if you are after revs and such, now seems like a good opportunity to get an alloy flywheel made up to your needed specs

A Fidanza or Ferdanza (not sure the name, if I see then i'll know) would do the job. Its a light weight fly wheel. However it is not that light until you will lose 70% of your torque ...
