keen to hear the answer for not only adaptronic but most common ecu models in general
I'll be going through the process of putting an adaptronic on my MA71 (7MGTE), and am curious as to how much of the crap wiring and vaccuum lines become surplus.
Obviously the AFM goes, but what things like the cold start injector, vaccuum switches and lines and other sensors are no longer neccessary when the TCCS goes?
What have other people done??
Thanks

also very interested ;-)

Assuming you are running manual, then the only things you need to keep are
TPS
ISCV
ECU Coolant temp
Gauge Coolant temp
CPS
o2 sensor.
one knock sensor (although I'm not sure how well Adaptronic handles knock)
Thats pretty much it.
CSI and CSI timer switch can go
Any other auto coolant thing can do
AFM goes
Fuel pressure reg VSV goes.
The other knock sensor goes.
You will need to buy a manifold air temp sensor though.
Vacuum lines will pretty much remain as is, except the FPR VSV lines can be removed.

Just clarifying "removed" - you still provide a vac/boost reference for the FPR, right?Originally Posted by CrUZida

FPR = Fuel Pressure Regulator or Fuel Pump Relay? You definetly need a vacuum for the former, but not for the latter.
Peewee is pretty much correct. I don't think the Adaptronic will run the factory igniter because I assume it's an addressing one like most Toyota ones. I got around this with a Microtech X4 igniter. Providing you do the knock sensor cable properly, it works brilliantly.

Yes, the FPR goes straight to the plenum, as opposed to the factory setup of plenum-vsv-fpr.

Thanks for that guys, tis much appreciated.

sorry crUZ, must spread love.
dood.. what sort of research did you do before settling on an Adaptronic for your 7MGTE?
I'm thinking of going with an aftermarket ECU to do away with much of the things listed above, but just wondering if there any specific ECU's that are better suited to that engine.. or what ECU's others are using..
for example, I know Kedderz was thinking of using a MINES ecu
I was thinking of going Microtech personally, but only cos they are pretty commonly used on a lot of engines..

from what i've heard the microtech are a little less"street friendly" than the others... im looking at haltech/autronic/adaptronic/motec for my 7m....
No ecu is less 'street friendly' than any other IF they are setup and tuned correctly.
For a basic engine like the 7MGTE any ecu will do a proper job if you set it up correctly, and spend the money on tuning.
Some ecu's do some functions better though, such as use factory ISCV, closed loop fuel trim, knock sensing etc.
Adaptronic is BY FAR the best bang for buck on the market.
If you don't want Adaptronic then Microtech is the next best bang for buck.
Any other ecu apart from those 2 will cost mucho more, and not give many more features, or be much harder to use.

thanks dood... will keep it in mind.. will probably be one of the two you mentionedOriginally Posted by CrUZida

I'm too lazy to check the website - does Adaptronic do 3 ignition outputs?
At some stage they only had two, with various "test" units having 3 outputs - has this changed?
There are limitations to the lower cost ECUs that no setup/tuning can "fix".
Adaptronic is low cost because it's an emerging product and hence has features of a higher end ECU at a lower end price, offering much better bang for buck than pretty much anything else. One has to keep in mind it's not quite a fully mature product yet....

Yep, does 3 ignition outputs.

I think you'll find that it's tuning ability and the dyno/workshop capabilities to make good use of software features that is the major limitation.Originally Posted by Mos
