Default G-series LSD Noise in Reverse!!

    Hi Guys,

I am having a few issues with the diff (i think) in my MX83 cressida.
I have fitted a Grande LSD (G series LSD) to it and it has been working before now without
    any issues.

Now its been raining alot lately around my way so I have been getting a lil bit of sideways action, a little bit too much maybe? (if thats possible)

Anyways, I'm driving into my carpark this morning, and when I am reversing and turning to the left or right I can hear a distinct "ting" "ting" "ting" noise from the rear of the vehicle.
Its not really bad, yet, but is it about to go? or is this normal for a much loved LSD?
Peeps with G-series LSDs, do you have this noise??

Driving normally it is OK, on the highway at 120 it is smooth as, no noises, and it bags em up still so I am unsure what it is. Maybe I am being pedantic. But I am gonna drive this car to the
snow soon thats all. Don't wanna be broken down on the side of the road with a broken diff. The missus will no straight away what its from!LOL
She kinda helped me put it in (advisory role only).
Should I put some new LSX90 oil or something in there to quieten it down?

    Cheers,
    Bart

Banana's are good to make a diff quiet.
Try some Nulon G70 and change your diff oil at the same time.
Let us know if you find your old oil has turned silver or you have a build up of silver 'paste' on the drain plug.
    Cheers,
    Mitch.

I know the silver paste you speak of!
Had it once in the hilux front diff. its all stuck to the back of the drain plug yeah?
quite thick to the touch? What is this gunk?
If the oil has turned silver, what does this mean?

What is Nulon G70 is this a specific LSD oil additive? Like Lucas or whatever it is?
And I use Castrol LSX-90 LSD oil in the luxie and was thinking of using the same in the
cressi? IS LSX-90 OK or are there better diff oils to get.
I go pretty hard on this car so whatever is better I don't mind gettin it.

that silver stuff is metal filings that have stuck to the magnet thats on teh back of the drain plug. heaps of diffs have it, its basically due to wear over the life of the car.

VT commodore LSD's had this problem also. the rework was to replace the oil and add a special "friction modifier." its an addative that helps the clutches release and stop binding up. i think this is the noise you are hearing./

I use SAFAXA in all the LSD diffs that i top up, its a bit more expensive, but its worth it. and now they have engineered it so that it doesnt need an additive!

its mainly if your using lsx90 because it lacks the additive in the oil to help the clutch's release from each other when the lsd is not locked.
