    Default ECU's for 1JZ Help!

    Hey guys,

I'm about to embark on a project, this project is putting a 1JZGTE from a JZA70 into an MX23... I havent actually got the half cut yet, however, in an attempt to gain some technical knowledge before the motor is sitting in my garage I've been trying to do some research... Basically what im looking for is a suitable ECU for the 1JZ with a wealth of FEATURES and good COMPATIBILITY with the factory senders and sensors etc. I plan to run either a GT3540 or a GT3582R turbo.

    The three main ECU's I looked into are;

The Wolf V400 Plus With Hand Controller - Retailing at $1,595 and supposedly having a lot of compatibility with the exhisting ignition sytem, I am unaware of its compatibility with the exhisting senders and sensors.

The Microtech LT-12s with Bosch Coils and Ignitor Box - Retailing at $1,895 I didnt ask a lot of questions as I didnt think it was the best option for me as is seems like a fairly simple ECU.

Finally the Haltech E11V2 which is available with a Connector Kit for the 1JZ and a Boost Controller Solenoid - Which all up costs $2567 and seems to be the most compatible with the engine, although its a lot more expensive it aparently has a lot more complex mapping allowing the engine to run a lot more smoothly and create more power than conventional units.

I just dont know what I should go for... I am competent enough to wire it up myself however I dont want to be fucked around with sensors and senders that dont work..

    Can anyone help me???
    Relax, i'm with goatse...

1895 seems abit too much for the microtech

    who was that thru

any ecu will be compatible with the 1j if u get all the correct sensors

for ease of fitment i would go microtech

with a wolf which i hate cause i dont do them often
    and haltechs same reason
both these ecus u will have to spend some time on the laptop settin it up for starting

the microtech will start first go if u do things right

i tried to work on an old wolf could not find where to buy spare sensors so i told customers i dont wnat to waste any more time so i said get rid of it and throw a microtech on

    no hassles with them

another thing is when u wire up a boost controller thru an aftermarket ecu it sometimes doesnt work 100% compared to a unit that does not run thru the ecu
i know on some autronics the boost controller would flutuate a tiny bit on hi boost
and u have to fit restrictors and stuff in vac lines to sort it out

u can run the microtech with the std coils just get an lt12 with ignitor box
i wired one up last friday and had no probs

check out autotronic as well. App. they are good. If I were you Id find a tuner in your area and go with what they know best. ECU is only as good as its tuner!

Depending on the gearbox used, if its manual, then a AP Engineering power fc might suffice. Liiteral plug and play setup, not wiring, comes with hand controller, good tuneability, has handy knock sensor function, retails for about $1500 landed.

I don't know why your mtech is so expensive, or why you would want all that bosch crap.
1jzs are individual coil packs, and microtechs have inbuilt igniters - that should be all you need.

oh, and the "create more power" from the haltech is just crap, pure and simple. tuned with equal skill, they will all create the same power... just some with better delivery and drivability

No, Microtechs no longer have inbuilt igniters. You have to use one of their external X4 or X6 igniter boxes.

I got quoted $1895 for an LT12s with x6 igniter from Hardcore. It is cheaper to buy in Sydney though.

Draven: Yes you can easily use the stock coils but they do have a limit. Don’t know if you remember but Shane made something like an additional 40rwhp changing to the bosch coils.

Agree with the make more power with Haltech. 4 out of the 5 quickest 1jz’s in Australia are running Microtechs so they can definitely make the power.

DO NOT GET A WOLF! If you want more info. do a search as I have written about it many times.

Got Microtech wired in 4 hours and started better than the wolf ever did (and it was tuned) uses all the stock sensors (wolf needed new water temp sensor) is simple to tune and already from the short amount of driving I have done seems to drive better than the wolf did.

Yes they are simple and IMO that is the best thing about them. As well as that, it is easy to get tech support with help unlike Wolf.

Basically, on paper the wolf is a better ecu, in real life I don’t think that is the case.

No experience with Haltech but plug and play sounds good if you have a loom but a bit expensive.

Since it is a conversion, I would put the engine in with no loom and just get some connectors from somebody’s cut up loom and make your own with the ecu loom provided. I would like to change to this in the future and get rid of the stock loom altogether.

    Hope that helps
