Default Megasquirted cars at WA events

If there are any MSed cars going to WA events I'd love to be there..

I'm very interested in this, and would love to see some MS cars..

Being able to see and hear the cars running as well as talk to the owners would be fantastic.
I'm sure there must be other interested people too, and it'd be a good opportunity to spread the word..

So, if you are taking a MS car [or Microtech as a comparison] please indicate the when and where...

'm in Collie so track days here would be ideal, but would be happy to go to the Motorplex or cruises in Perth.

i wouldve thought a car with a properly tuned megasquirt would look, and run, exactly like any other ECU.

if you were interested, you'd probably want to talk to a workshop that tunes it, or watch them do it?

Megasquirted vechiles are the same as any other aftermarket ecu controlled car. The tuning side is not as good but the computers are half the price. What exactly are you wanting to take away from seeing the vechiles in action?

unless you are an electrical engineer, or PCB designer, i would steer clear of the boards they have. The software for them is really picky and from last that i heard they wont run correctly on current laptops. Is there any particular reason as to why you are looking at it, other than price. If its only price, its not going to be worth it as you will most likely spend more money just to get it working.

i am not in australia, or in WA.. otherwise i would offer for you to play around with my car
    but...

Elmo, most workshops don't tune them. they are easy enough to tune yourself. some workshops are starting to realise how easy they are.

Julzy, i think he is interested to hear about others experiences in building, installing and tuning them.. which is all part of the MS experience

Pheonix, the software is easy. i run the software on both brand new laptops, and on old ones. the main issue with new laptops is the USB-serial converters.
the boards are well made and very easy to solder up yourself. a friend of mine built an MS as his first electronics/EFI project and it is still running about 50,000km later. they are dead simple and will open up most peoples eyes as to how simple EFI really should be
unless you have first hand experience, i would prefer you didn't put it down so much. the MS is not for everyone (ie, not for people willing to pull finger), but for many people it is a great project.

the tuning is arguably as good or better in many aspects than other ECU's. there are some features it doesn't have, but there are no ECU's that are more intuitive to tune than the MS they are easy to install, but you may need to do a bit of research as to which ignition trigger you want to run and how to set that up.

my own car ran very well. WOT, part throttle, cruise and decel were all perfect. good mixtures (confirmed by wideband lambda probe after tuning on a narrow band), no bucking or missing (or farting on decel ), and transient throttle response was great. cold start/warmup was a no brainer and only took a few starts (maybe 5?) to get it spot on.
    closed loop works great!

i also have the megaview, but only used it in the car to change things on the road, not for initial tuning.

this was all on an MS1 with V2.2 board. i got a beta MS2 for testing, but then i left the country

anyway, i am sure you have heard a few things abotu it and might already know the above points and so are not daunted by the MS

Cool Re: Megasquirted cars at WA events

Ummmm.. WA is in Australia, it's the best 1/3 imho.. ;^)===

Exactly what I was thinking. Nothing like seeing the results and kicking tyres!

I'll probably do the MS1 extra spark jobby on a V3 board,,

No, I was an electronic tech by trade until I moved into greener pastures.. The contruction is not worrying me at all.. 8^)===

mine (18R turbo + megasquirt) ran without flaw from Brisbane to Dubbo via Goondiwindi (worst roads in world) and then returned via New England and the Pac Highway (lots of corners and hills) and it was probably the only thing that didn't fuck up.

Approx 2300km round trip that also included 6 drag racing runs in Dubbo.

We were able to tune for cruise on the way down (starting from my shithouse ~6km/l tune we got to over 10km/l by the last leg)

Runs on any laptop (P1 and above, windoze, linux, mac OSX) and has great software for tuning, logging and analysis. Easy to use software.

It's not just cheap, it's great value for money and surprisely robust and adaptable.

not sure where you feedback comes from but it doesn't reflect my experiences.

I'll be running MS in my next car. Eventually.

I am really keen to build and tune it myself with very minimal dyno time.

It may not be the most fashionable brand, but it sure as hell works a treat. I don't care if I am not running Haltech or Motec when people ask me what I use. At least I will know how it works and how to fix it without having to go back to the dyno (and $150/hr charges).

I hear that MS2 is running Quick Lambda now? Not sure though...
