That the temp the engine is running at? Or what the thermostat opens up at and the temperature of the coolant?
My 32 year old 2T thats never been rebuilt runs at ~83 most of the time, it has overheated in summer though. Nothing turning the heater on couldn't fix though.

not even water pump dude?? wow.. it's nice to know that there are some toyota engines do make it past the 200,000 kms mark without a rebuild or anything..

are u getting good compression? still pulls hard? and also good water temps and such?

I had an 18RC with an estimated original 350,000k on it(I was the first to remove the head when I changed the timing chains) with an auto behind it. Never overheated till i burst a water line, and then again when i blew the water pump. Otherwise went awesome.

    Cheers, Owen

Edit: had plenty of compression and ran like clockwork

Origonal 4AC in an 83 corolla. My first car. Over 220 000Kms I think without opening up the engine.

It has little compression now and blows some blue smoke after sitting at the lights. Still starts first kick even after sitting on the lawn for a few months. Its had a hard life too.

my old 20v, in need of a rebuild, took forever to reach operating temp. the new 20v does it in an instant

Before i rebuilt my 18rc 2 years ago, it had done 487000 kms ( i know because my grandmother bought it brand new) and it had never had an overheating problem in its life.

My theory is that as an engine ages it wears, the clearances increase, and it actually takes less energy to make it run, therefore slightly decreasing the amount of heat generated in the combustion process. This is probably too small a decrease in temperature to notice, but as already stated the only reason an old engine should overheat is due to lack of coolant/broken water pump or severe corrosion and blockage in the coolant system.
