Hi guys, ive a chance to replace my 18R engine to a 18RG for my 77 Celica RA28. I have a few questions what make sense to modify slightly power especially low end and mid range.
The guy who will sell and overhaul engine, chains and gasket kits, suggested the following:
adapting compression to 10:5:1, keeping all internals as is, except the cyl head gasket, without replacing pistons, camshaft and valves. Is this really possible?
replacing header to 4:2:1 - mine is a left hand drive dont know where to buy unfortunately.
keeping the Mikuni oem 40s and adapting jets and venturi..Do you have suggestion or experience to power up the existing carbs?
changing clutch and lighter flywheel.
He also has a 45 intake manifold for the RG but dont know whether its worth it buying 2 Weber or Mikuni 44s, to power up at low and midrange
What do you think? Your inputs are really much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for your replies.
Sergi

I kind of doubt that a head gasket will take 8.5 to 10.5. Piston swap will be needed and you don't need anything else to get to 10
Yes the old Celica's are great cars thanks..
