    Default 5VEU Hemi

Hey everyone I found an old forum from a while back about someone who had drawings for the head gaskets for these engines, but that was about as far as it went if any one has any info or experience with these engines I could really use your expertise
    Thanks.

Which chassis did it come out of?

Contact this seller on Ebay, If anyone has any information, he will. Too bad you were not in Southern California on the 1st of June, the all toyota car show is there and all of the vendors would be there with all the leads and possible OEM parts required to rebuild that engine...

No he would not have that info, it was too new... VG40, VG45 model is what i looked up on Yahoo Japan and since it was such a special car, and only specific dealerships in japan could order these vehicles, your only hope is someone back in Japan..Sorry I couldn't help you on this one...

Maybe special order it from Cometic if you send in one of the old gaskets to have them prototype it for you as a one off special order...

    WOW.... another 5V-EU owner...

I too have recently purchased a 5V-EU from Yahoo Japan... mine is still in transit

Here is the engine (from YJ auction)

I've been scouring the internet, and other places looking for information and parts - some parts are available because they were used on other engines that are still available.

I also tried to contact all the people referred to in the published pages from a USA Hemi book..... unfortunately those who got back in touch, no longer have any parts for them.

I did manage to score a starter....

... and a factory engine manual.... my new Samsung phone does the translating

I call my 5V-EU: Project Lit'lphant - Here is my photo album: http://ost.ebeans.ch/thumbnails.php?album=58

As far as head gaskets... I'll likely be going to Cometic and have them custom made.

I see you have pulled the intake from yours, are the intake gaskets re-usable? I'm kind of hoping they are similar to 4AG intake gaskets that are metal, and so could be reused..... the older 4V engine (in the photo below) doesn't use metal.....

although it does look simple enough to make.....

Anyway... my interest in this engine is partially fueled (like the pun?) by the engines reported mass - 130 kilos!

Other details I've gleaned from the internet....
    Engine code 5V-EU
    Cylinders V 8 in 90° vee
    Capacity 4 litre - 3994 cc - (243.729 cu in)
    Bore × Stroke 87 × 84 mm - 3.43 × 3.31 in
    Bore/stroke ratio 1.04
    Valve gear overhead valve (OHV)
    2 valves per cylinder
    16 valves in total
maximum power output: (JIS net) 164 PS (162 bhp) (121 kW) @ 4400 rpm
    Specific output(JIS net) 40.6 bhp/litre - 0.66 bhp/cu in
    maximum torque(JIS net) 289 Nm (213 ft•lb) (29.5 kgm) at 3600 rpm
    Specific torque(JIS net) 72.36 Nm/litre 0.87 ft•lb/cu3
Engine construction light alloy head & block (reported to be 130 kilos[286#s]) for comparison a 1UZ tips the scales closer to 355#s
    compression ratio 8.6:1
    Fuel system EFi
bmep (brake mean effective pressure) 909.3 kPa (131.9 psi)(with a BMEP of 131 theres some serious room for improvement)

My goals for the engine: 300hp, 300#/ft

The intake gaskets are metal but that have a rubber seal ring in the water jackets. I'd say they are quite reusable. And could you give me any insight on wear to fund a service manual? What car do you plan on putting it in?

I got the engine, the starter, and the manual off Yahoo Japan. I did a search, and I found a similar manual to the one I got... price is a bit $$$ - https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/217949569

this manual is cheaper - https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n346477662

not entirely sure... but if the engine's mass pans out, I was thinking of building something along the lines of this.......

but I don't want to put the cart before the horse... finish engine first, then find a home for it.

24" long too??? from the bellhousing flange to the: front of timing case, front of water pump, front of fan?

As to height... I'm hoping to avoid a huge hood scoop... something a LOT lower then on this Corona - distributor elimination may be needed

At one time my goal was to mount the 5V in an RA29 too... and it might be again depending on what happens once I have the engine overhauled

They just seem to go together perfectly. I'm going for a very American muscle car look.

What are your plans for a transmission?

I just bought a A340E, with correct bell housing, and torque converter from Yahoo Japan...

May look at other options, but this was what they came with, and it seemed the easy button.
