    Default 4AGE 16V block vs 20V block.

well I am chasing a 16V block with oil squirters, and have had a shit time trying to find one, but there are a few 20V ones around, and these all have oil squirters.
I did a bit of reasearch and found out that the bottom of the block is different to a 16V so a 16V sump won't bolt to a 20V without modification, and that the 20V block like the 4agze blocks doesn't have the fitting for the oil drain from the back of the head.
I don't want to run a 20V head because i have a smallport head already setup with quads and cams.
so what I would like to know is if I get a 20V block will this head bolt on no worries?
and with the lack of oil drain in the block, is the block actually moulded with the fitting blocked up, or is it just blocked up with a plate or something I can remove and then screw in the fitting from a smallport block to have the oil drain?
I have searched and could only find info on putting 20V heads on 16V blocks but not the other way around?
Thanks in advance for any info and help!
    Cheers.

you can drill the block to take a fitting
its cast solid in the 20v as the 20v has better internal oil drains and doesnt need the external drain

ok sweet, so would it screw anything up putting the fitting on? or did the 20V only have the better oil drainage with the 20V head?
Now all I need to know is if the head will fit on with no problems?
I had a 20v head gasket for my 16V and couldnt use it cause the 2 triangle holes on the back of the 16V head were not allowed for with the 20v head gasket?
    as per pic:

I have dug up this old thread as i would like to find some more info on the oil drainage being different to a 16v.

Anyone have pics of this ?? or a side by side view of the different sump patterns ?

The sumps are different shapes, the 20v block has an extra lump in the side.

OK - 20v on left, 16v on right.

Looking at it, I recon you could drill some holes in the bottom of the 20v block and use a 16 sump and windage tray.
