E series box is the go
Hi
I have a turbo 20v silvertop 4age with a 7a block making it a 1.8L 20v, i wont be going any higher then 350hp. Which gearbox will be strong enough to handle the boost, I know the C50 is good but is it good enough? also apparently ford has a gearbox is that very good? I currently got a gearbox sitting around but unsure what it actually is, iv heard its 6 speed but unconfirmed, i cant find any tags so i don't know where to start, i can ad photos if required. This will be a FWD car most likely in a AE92 body. Any advice, ideas or able to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.
Thanks
E series box is the go
HI, any reason why? Is it Lsd and a 6 speed?
E-series gearboxes are what come behind 4AGZEs, 3SGTE MR2s and V6 Camrys (they are also the 4WD box for the GT4 Celica et al but that isn't relevant for this case). There are a very solid box that can take a lot of power (much more than C-series), and do have several LSD versions. All 5-speed though, Toyota doesn't really do a transverse 6-speed known for taking bulk power

There is two versions as well, the E50, E51 and E52 came behind the early ae92 and Aw11, they come with wider gears so can take more abuse the later boxes E58 (ae101 GTZ) have narrower gears
The AWD GT4 boxes can be converted to FWD by changing the bellhousing over to suit
E153 from the 3sgte and v6 Camry with either an adapter plate or a bellhousing swap with an E series A box would be the go
Barry (MRP) runs a modified E51 from an Aw11 on his 410kw 9agte
Being in NZ you can also track down an E series box from an Ae115 and convert that to FWD by removing the transfer case, ratios may not be the best but it has strong wide gears
If you want six speed look at spending some serious $$$$
I've used both c52 and e51 on a 4agte (aw11 mr2). The c52 suits the feel of a 4agte much better than the heavy e51, e51 feels like the handbrake is on compared to a c52 IMO. The c5* is known to be good up to ~300rwhp (others have pushed more through them), though shafts are the weaker point.
All depends on how the vehicle is driven as well i guess.
There are several 6 speed E-series
