I have a Turbo A Supra.
Imported from Japan some time ago, I do not have full history of the car.
Japanese owner at some stage in the past had converted the car to 1jz-gte.
I had it as a fun single turbo car but the engine overheated and it's time to replace the turbo rebuild the engine etc etc...
So now the purist in me is thinking since I need to spend some money on the engine and the turbo maybe I should return it back to its roots and put the original powerplant in....
Research on the internet:
Turbo A came with a 7M-GTEU
differences from standard:
different turbo
larger throttle body
MAP sensor
larger intercooler?
and a special "3000" pipe without the "3000"
The U in 7M-GTEU states that the engine complies with the Japanese emissions standards.
I have no interest in trying to source original parts (unless someone has them available in a garage for me???![]()
)
I am thinking 7M-GTE, FFIM, MAP sensor, intercooler, exhaust, maybe a cam & an upgraded turbo + tune
Aiming for 300rwkw(ish)
And nobody talk about BHG please!
I am interested in advice and opinions, I have only got experience with 1jz's and 1g's
I would need to source a 7M-GTE & manual box + ECU.
Is it worth it for the 'Turbo A' badge?
Its not going to be truly "authentic" nor have 'matching numbers' so one would have to seriously question why even bother going backwards in technology for a half way attempt at 'authenticity'?
My 2c worth, put in another 1J or if funds allow a 2JZGTE and have a (more) reliable fun car...but its your car, your call![]()
