With my JDM 2JZGTEVVTI grounding TC turns on test mode. If your motor is JDM you need a JDM scanner
Hello,
I am wiring a 2JZGE VVTi (from manual 02~05 IS300) into an older chassis.
The car starts and runs just fine however it's in limp mode and throwing a CEL.
I've wired the OBD2 connector to the best of my ability but can't get any data pulled. It powers up my scan tool but no parameters/codes are displayed.
What are the minimum pins that need pulled? I think (from memory, sorry; at work) I skipped on A/B, TS, and TC. I wired TAC, BAT, SG, CG, WFSE, and SIL. SG and CG are wired to a common ground although IS300 is grounded to intake manifold and chassis, respectively.
I *think* the TC is my issue since it traditionally turns on test mode in older engines (pre-OBD2) so I'm curious if this needs grounded or something.
Any insight would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Sam

Jealousy is a curse
My ECU is USDM-spec but I think the difference is just protocol. That being said, are saying TC need to be grounded to "enable" the data stream? I'm thinking the OBD scanner might simply ground TC via the ground pin SG or CG? Any insight?

Ground TC and the error codes will flash the CEL

Thanks for clarifying, madmont
I've done some more searching and I'm going to try your suggestion; hopefully I can make sense of the codes. It looks like you were discussing with wilbo and some other guys about this in the past.
I'm still frustrated that my obd connector isn't working. I want to access the data stream for trouble shooting other problems.
One more request:
Does anyone have a pinout for the OBD connector with orientation noted (back of coupler/harness-side or front of coupler/connector-side)? I worry that maybe I have it wired backwards or something? Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to mess with the car since I originally posted but I'd like to double-check my notes. Looking around, the orientation is ambiguous in pictures and the manual I have isn't much help on this one either. Thanks in advance!

Hi all,
Just an update. I let this sit for awhile and came back to it last week. Ultimately, I wired up the connector per the IS300 Overall Wiring Diagram and left out A/B and TS connections since those systems won't be added to my MX62. It works great! I'm honestly not sure what I was doing wrong back in February. Anyways, just closing the loop. Thanks again for the responses!
