i would be worried about those hooks not holding up. the real ones are very thick in comparison
    and maybe some thicker rodding
    BUT
    the idea is brilliant

just be verrrry careful if you are significantly compressing the spring..

what rate are your springs? sayy.. 4kg/mm ?
4cm is 160kg of force (80kg on each side) etc.... if you can hang your weight by them, you can (maybe) safely compress 4cm

if you are going to compress them a lot, do the fencing wire/many cable tie mod also

    good luck

I have no idea how much I will need to compress them to get them in but I will know soon, if they start doing a david bowie on me then it is no drama I can just get some more rods.
I have a bit of wire in the shed so I can use use multiple backyard techniques at once, this is scary I am doing something constructive.

I had like four colours to choose from silver, black, red and green. To paint the hooks. My wife asked me why I chose red, so I told her "because I wanted to" and she just laughed at me. I though red was a safe manly colour to choose. I should have told her so the blood stains would be less noticable.

i like the diy but i would use all high tensile components.
if you can source a bolt that is long enough to be used it means you can use a ratchet and a spanner instead of 2 spanners. which will decrease the time you are near it incase somethig goes wrong.

also when using the compressor oil the threads and the washers.
