Tuff guy hey!! Stay in Japan Dude??don't be a tool and do this...
you'll sound like a fuckwit, be a defect magnet, and piss off your neighbours.. and there is NO justification for this....

No shit, I was just trying to give PSI055 some advice and copped a flamming!!! Will think twice about giving any advice in the future,,,, cause i got a loud exhaust, I must know nothing and be a fuckwit...Remember guys, this is the Tech section not the Outhouse.
Sure, the advice was fine. The bragging (as reproduced in oldcorollas post and below) isnt fine, and really just drags everything else down. The tech section is about Tech, not how loud your exhaust is or how tuff it is.Originally Posted by clean82

sorry dude, but a road car with more than the allowed 92/96dB has no justification...Originally Posted by clean82
even a race car doesn't have to have a loud exhaust.. you can make something that flows very well and isn't loud..
i don't know about you, but if a car goes past me and it has an earsplitting exhaust (sayy..108dB) the first thing i would think is "what a fuckwit" second thing i would think is "that sounds worse than a gemini" (of course that has no justification either.. it's a private joke)
you say you like your popping exhaust, and that you think it sounds TuFF... but i would suggest many people think otherwise..
if you read it, i recommended that he not be a tool and do this, and that he would sound like a fuckwit.... neither actually directed at you![]()
if he did it, he would be a tool.... and for people he drove past, they would probably think "what a fuckwit, can't even afford a decent exhaust"
but i did not say (or really mean to imply) that you are a tool or a fuckwit
(just to clarify that)
but i stand by my assertion that "a road car with more than the allowed 92/96dB has no justification.." and yes, you will probably get a defect notice for you defective exhaust....![]()

heh heh, Tuff always reminds me of the "Backstreet Boys" and blonde haired guys from the 80's with names like Corey and HamishOriginally Posted by clean82
but, i am neither Tuff nor Toughand don't have blonde hair...
did you get the !! and ?? the wrong way round? without smilies, it looks grammatically ... weird
and i may just do that.. since poor old Sydney is finally going down the shitter after recent episodes of "Middle Eastern Appearance" manlove.....
so anyway... quiet exhaust = teh good.
with programmable ECU you should easily be able to make the problem go away. it should also be easily reproducible by others with aftermarket ECU's and i know that i was able to produce this situation when i was tuning my car initially...
and i could never understand why the Microtechs didn't have closed loop?? seems.. too weird...

Its all because they are weird oldcorollas. Oh yeah, and for the record the race car peaks at around 112db. Thats no muffler, and dumped out the side of the car.
I too have been driving a GZE with too much exhaust noise (r00ted cat, p00 muffler), and it has a similar "popping" noise on gear changes to what you are describing. (heehee... i was going to say "p00ping")
This car has the stock ECU..... i'm really in two minds about the cause of this:
1/ Large p00 exhausts.
2/ The hideously long and large volume of intake from the throttle butterfly to the combustion chambers on a 4A-GZE.
My thoughts are that when you lift off the go pedal, throttle closes but there is still a little air in the intake that the engine can use before getting to the proper manifold vacuum - which of course your MAP sensor will give extra fuel for!
I'm thinking it's option 2..... based on what the little b00st gauge tells me![]()
...... butt scratcher?!
Hey, if u say big exhausts could cause it, wouldnt it still do it with a small one but just cant hear it as much ? cause ive seen 4age - ze's with big exhausts that dont do it ?.
I have been thinking that its too lean on backoff ? i dont know as i know very little with fuel injection....but with a carby fed car i know if u lean it off u get this "poping" sound like im getting and it sounds like a Gemini
Am i on the right track here ?
Cheers Luke
