how long did you turn it over? did you fill the filter up with oil? squirt out the block were?
it can take a few times to get the oil up if the system is totally dry!

i have been turning it overer a fair bit, probly for about 10-15secs in one contiuous go....
in my experience an engine has never taken that long to build pressure
,this engine was out of a running car(supposedly) and semed to have traces of oil around the sump, old filter was pretty dry when i took it off thou...
i have the gauge hooked to where the turbo oil feed goes, now it is diconnected so oil should squirt out!

edit: yes i did fill the filtter up first,i will go and try fill it more and crank it some more

i had this happen after i rebuilt a 5.0 lt. the problem was that the oil pump wasnt primed and couldnt draw any oil up the pickup.

try putting heaps of oil through the oil filter hole on the block. this should fill the oil pump up and get you some pressure.

its important to remember also that even though the engine isnt running, its still rotating when you are cranking. you still need to oil the bearings adn the like. continuos cranking without any oil can still do damage......

thats the nice thing about drysump setups, a spare pump puley in a drill and a belt and you prime it before you crank it!
