    Default T-50 alternatives?

I've searched the US by internet for a T50 from a 80-82 Corona with little luck, aged out Iguess. I need everything between the engine backplate and driveshaft yoke pretty much, so I can convert my '61 Morris Minor PU to a 5 speed for improved performance with a mildly built 1275. I've got the clutch, flywheel, and adapter/backplate.

Can anyone recommend any alternative RWD gearbox and bellhousing, other than the Datsun B type, that is similar enough to that T-50, perhaps with an integral bellhousing even, that could replace that particular t-50? As long as I can the output yoke, I don't think it matters if I get either the 20 or 22 spline output shaft. Anone differ? I've less than 120- 150HP even if install the turbo.

I've a list of other Toy applications for the T-50,but don't know the SPECIFIC differences or why they'd work or not.
    • 82 Corona w/1S engine
    • 83 Celica w/ 3T-E/2T-E engine
    • 84 Corolla w/ 2A engine
    • 80-82 Corolla w/ 3TC engine
    • 83-87 Corolla w/ 4AC/ 4AGEU/ 3AU/ 4AU engines
    • 75-79 Corolla w/2TC engine (shorter tailshaft) - I think it has internal shift rods too.

  2. If the engines differ, I assume the bellhousings do as well, if they have an integral backplate. If they use a separate backplate, are the bellhousings the same but backplates differ?

I realize there are ROW cars, too, and some of the above may not be available in the US,or have different names. Some may be more available, or maybe another bellhousing/box combination is close enough?

My budget is somewhat limited and sources limited to wreckers, eBay, rebuilders, perhaps importers. I need a more detailed education than I've found so far.
    PMs are ok,too.

From memory, all T50s are the same, apart from:
    - Those behind 2Ts (maybe 3Ts too) had the shifter further forward and slightly different actuation (maybe internal shift rods as you say).
    - Some (T series?) had a ball bearing input shaft bearing, others (A series?) had a bigger/better roller bearing on the input shaft.
    - Early boxes (2T, early 3T) had 20 output splines, later ones (4A) had 22 output spline.
    - Bellhousings differ to suit the engine family, but are interchangeable between boxes (there can be some issues mixing and matching ball/roller input shaft bearings with bellhousings meant for the other type, but seem to remember it can be solved).

That's from experience in Australia with mainly TA22 Celicas, TE72 T18s, AE71 Corollas and AE86 Corollas. But the thrust of it is that if you find any T50 and the bellhousing suits your adaptor/engine then the rest should be possible to work out. Just need to check shifter placement and get a tailshaft to suit.
I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

Hen, THANK YOU! I've finally found a site with the people who know what I need to find out!!!

Now I can try to match up more recent t-50 trannys with RWD t-50 bellhousings that can bolt to my adapter plate. And, hopefully, find one locally (US), then the rest of the parts to support installation. Hopefully some of those engine/tranny cars were imports here and I can drag my parts to them to see if it's simply drilling different holes to mate it to back of my 1275 Midget block.

If anyone has any info about where to find templates of the back various Toyota engine blocks, it would resolve a great part of that research. Anyone? Iay need to get some parts from AU, NZ, or even JDM, but a good box is the biggest part (next anyway).

Hey mate, I am more than happy to find a T50 for you from Japan and have it sent over to you!

Let me know if you were needing a bellhousing. The most common ones I can get have an A series bellhousing to suit a 4A,7A engine.

If you are only after the box, that makes things even easier.

    Cheers

    Try using car-parts.com
There a T-50 in Ridgecrest CA. for $225
A lot of the early Corollas had T-50s, should not be hard to find one.
