Arent these the same for JZA70 and MA70? In which case a ryco filter, No.:A455 will fit![]()
Hi,
Not very technical, but i'm after a factory style ( paper ) air filter element to suit what i believe is a JZA70 air filter housing, Toyota say No air filters in the country, just wondering what people use & what part #'s, its got a piece of shit foam thing in there now, but its as good as useless as far as filtering goes, so i want to stick a good paper one in there & to also hopefully calm down the Pssh noise, that reverberates out of the filter on back off ..
Thanks in advance ..
Regards ..
Rob ..

Thanks but have been down that track, MA70 ones look very similar but are about 30mm or so narrower in the overall diameter & so it doesn't get clamped by the housing halves & so will just flop around inside, so no good ..
Thats news...I have an MA70 airfilter from a 7M-GTE equipped A70 bolted directly into my JZA70 running a 2JZ? Never knew they were different!
So you must have a MA70 Air filter housing too ? as i definately tried a MA70 air filter today from my local Toyota spare parts & as i said its certainly smaller in the overall Diameter ..
I checked with a few spare parts places & even Toyota & the JZA70 Air filter is not listed to be compatible for any other cars & only Toyota & one other place even lists them, so i now have my fingers crossed for a Wesfil air filter that it might fit ?? ..

Try apexi 507-T001

USSR GAZ24 with 1UZ-FE VVTi (UCV24) http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=60301
Engine conversion is when you drive a shitbox which costs a whole LEXUS to own
Thanks for the link, but i want to stick to the stock air box & filter design, i have a few pods i could use, but i prefer the standard paper element style / design as i feel they work better & hopefully it will muffle out the intake noise a bit too ..
Correct. It is an MA70 filter housing, but what is confusing is I dont see how a bigger housing would fit on the same mounts?
I, along with the rego inspector, agree that a stock housing and either stock or similar element makes for a quieter overall system than any pod filter...
Oh...and the part number for the JZA70 filter element is common to the Crownas an aside, try PM ajansen on here (Alex) as he may be able to find the part number as he works at Repco

It is strange that it bolts up & its not a huge difference but it is bigger, maybe where the mounts are on the housings it is back to the same size, as the housing does taper down ..
I pressume we are talking about the 1UZ Crown around 1990 model Crown, i should know the model # but it has escaped me, According to Repco they dont even have a listing for a Air filter for the JZA70 ...

Crown is the 1991 to 1999 1JZ-GE or 2JZ GE model (JZS130-135 and JZS141-145)
Part number is 17801‑46050
I just checked, part numbers for housings and filters are indeed different between MA70 and JZA70...however I know they fit in same space!
Only suggestion is possibly swap to am MA70 housing as the filters are easier to find and it will bolt right in?? (that said, filter area may be marginally smaller based on what you said...maybe more frequent changes required?)
Thanks for the part number, from your research do you still think they are the the same air filter as the JZA70 ..
I will stick to the JZA70 Housing for the moment, as i mentioned i'm hoping this Wesfil filter might do the trick ( they are getting one in ) & now i have the Crown part # too, i asked today at Toyota if the filter fitted any other car & he said it didnt but maybe cross refrencing grey imports is not to easy ..
Part numbers for both the housing and filter are different, so no, I dont think they are identical...they just happen to fit in the same mounting points!![]()
I know this thread is plenty of years old now, but I'm curious, did you ever find an OEM style replacement filter?
