Default Converting my RA28 from an 18-RC to an 18-RG.

I want to convert my ra28 from an 18R-C to and 18R-G that works, has bolt ons and twin carbys. First, can anyone please list me exactly what I'll need to do this? What else will need replacing after I rip the R-C out and go to put the R-G in? Can someone tell me blow by blow, what I'll have to do. Im not kidding, the more info the better.
Probably will be looking to start this April next year after a trip overseas. Just really want detailed accounts of what I'm going to need to do. The more info the better. This will be my first ever engine conversion. I'm nervous and pumped.

I can't give the the step by step but you will need

18RG with carbs and a rear sump. From memory there are perhaps three sump configurations. (They come with solex, but webers will fit the factory manifold). The engine should bolt to the factory cross member and directly to the stock manual gearbox. I'm not sure about the automatic.

You'll need a new exhaust manifold and exhaust.

You'll need to wire in a low pressure electric fuel pump. The 18r is a mechanically driven fuel pump. You will have other wiring that may need to be modified

You may need to change the throttle linkage setup. Many people have pulled together cable setup from other models. There is no one solution.

Before you start, go and read as many of the members ride threads as possible. The conversion is one of the simplest around, but the clever cloggses on here and in other forums have come up with many different ways to sort the details. You need to decide what works best for you.

If you want to include things like A/C you'll need to source parts or consider paying for a custom system.

Finally, do some searching (google works just fine). Here's something I found after 5 seconds of laborious typing.

The 18R mechanical pump will do the job for the 18RG, the block still has provisions for it.

Les is on the money with the majority of it.

Things that will change will be your exhaust headers as the head is different, some wiring may have to change however the coil/dizzy stuff doesn't move much so you may get away with using the factory wiring for the coil and distributor.

Heater hoses are a little different between the 18R and RG, be prepared for that, nothing major though. You may just find you'll use some 3/4" copper pipe and some rubber hose with bends and clamps to line it all up.

Most of it all figures out pretty simply, if anything it's not too tricky of a conversion as Len said. It'll just be a matter of putting the two together. Both engines are virtually identical from the block down, so everything will swap where needs be.

I also found the Z418 oil filter helps with clearance with the twin carbs compared to the bulky one for the 18R.

Best of luck, if you get stuck just make a post or two here.
