a decent air fliter is always a positive.
the only negative maybe cost that you might not get back when you sell your 2t to swap for 2tg.
if it where me i would bide my time till i got the 2tg.

    cheers

Properly designed and set up you can recieve some benefits from a good air filter, however most of the install's done are crap and if anything do nothing or adversely have negative affects.

Make sure it is mounted properly and boxed in - not just for legal reasons but to also ensure as little heat is consumed as possible.

Edit: Sorry your talking about socks. My 2TG has some on it but theyre filthy and open so i doubt the legality of them. Mine however is on my garage floor whereas yours in in your car.

I'm not too sure but id imagine a cold air duct thingy would be a good way to go. Not too sure about shielding but you could do something like that.

    suss_slide,

Are you asking about the brand "RamFlo" filters?

The "RamFlo" filter you would buy for a stock 2T with dual throat downdraught carby will not then fit on the sidedraught carbies on a 2T-G.

Such a filter on the 2T is a straight forward swap. Remove the whole OEM filter housing assembly. The new one then sits on and screws down the middle.

There would be only a slight improvement it performace, probably not noticable at all and there will be a change in induction sound and that is about it.

A negative that I have experienced here in Canberra is that the OEM carby and even my 2T-B dual downdraught set, would freeze over on cold mornings or evenings starving the motor of power.

When you go to the 2T-G my reccommendation would be to buy Ram Tubes and filter socks. Ram tubes will increase the overall intake length and give a slight torque improvement over the "RamFlo" or "K&N" type flat filters and they look and sound a whole lot better.

The ultimate set up would be a boxed/sealed in set of Ram tubes (without filters) with a filtered inlet duct taking air from the front of the car, creating a ramed air induction system.

Some of the road racing guys have this duct in place but the ram tubes not boxed in, so they can get cold air directed towards the carbies.

No need for heat shields as the 2Ts and 2T-Gs have most of the hot air on the other side of the enginebay.

    Regards

    Rodger

My general opinion of air filter "upgrades" is that even if it does increase the engine's performance (which is dubious), the difference is so small you'd hardly be able to measure it. The air filter is rarely a restriction to performance in the first place, hence the benefit usually exists only in the owner's head.

IMO you'd be much better off with a well constructed airbox and some sort of cold-air feed. This will have tangible benefits over exposed filters sucking hot air from the engine bay.

So very true. The main benefit of the ramflo air filters is that you can saturate them with oil, to give a cleaner air charge through the carby and filter finer particles. Seeing as you are exchanging the anchor for a 2TG, there is therefore no point in preserving the motor, and the money, time and effort will be wasted. Just run the motor into the ground, and get your new motor $40 sooner.

The only thing a ramflo filter could stop would be a housebrick!!
Save your $40 and do something worthwhile when you go for the 2TG.

I'd always get one for an old shitbox motor, it makes it sound better, costs furk all & menas you'll be needing a newer/better motor all that much sooner!
