Is it an XV10 or XV20? 1997 was a changeover year and the remote/alarm/immobiliser systems are different between the two
Friend has a 1997 Camry and the alarm has started to go off randomly, and you can't seem to turn it off.
My question is can you disable the alarm? Without effecting the immobiliser?
A search on Google confirms this is not uncommon but I haven't been able to find a fix yet.
Very annoying!
Thanks
Mark

I have a 1995 Camry . One night it was parked in the garage and the alarm went off. The ecu needed replacing.(located to the left of the glovebox)I obtained a replacement from the wreckers.
I was unable to buy a replacement with the matching remote and had to buy one from the dealer. The spare parts man was a bit reluctant but I was eventually provided with a form to fill in to obtain said remote. Remote was obtained with appropriate instructions and unit is still working.
Jealousy is a curse
Model is XV20

Factory fitted alarm, base spec 4 cylinder manual
Check the interior light switches in the door jambs. Far as I know the only thing that sets it off is opening the door when its armed.
