Default 3T-GTE Rod and Piston options

    Hi all,

We are looking at building a 3T-GTE engine for a race car project.

We have been searching for options on what is available for aftermarket rods and pistons.

Seems a lot of people on here have done a bit with the 3T stuff,
but no posts I found were recent.

From what we can tell the 3T-GTE rods are the same at the 3TC stuff which seems a lot of people do stuff with,
as rods seem freely available for them,
but are the 3TC pistons suitable for the 3T-GTE head?

Looking for suppliers to supply 3T rods and a set of 87mm pistons for around 9.5:1 compression ratio.

Also any other tricks or tips for building a good reliable 3T-GTE.

    Matt

I'm running Arias dome 8.8 CR with eagle rods. These came from paradise racing sometime ago and are 3TC. I've seen others use Weisco 7.8 CR. Never seen anything with 9.5 CR. Could always get them custom. What race application are you looking at?

Looking at building a TA63 replica of the Toyota WRC cars.

Looks like we are looking for longer than standard rods and probably going to end up with 8.5: compression pistons.

    Looking for around 400hp.

Paradise Racing and BRD are the best places for the parts you require. BRD have standard length and 0.034" longer rods. Pistons will have to be custom made to suit rods, which BRD can do.

Look up pistons in menu, about half way down page they show custom pistons to suit long rods.

We were on the phone with BRD last week, seem to know and have all the stuff, but won't send it overseas, will only freight within USA.

That's bad news for both of us then. I was going to buy valves from them. I actually bought my wiseco pistons from them about four years ago. Must have changed their policy.

maybe I (Oregon USA) can act as an import/export??? I do it for a friend from the aeu86 boards, just cover the freight, and a tiny fee (is $20.00 USA excessive?)

With the TA63 replica are you looking at trying for the 4tgte build or long rod 3tgte based one? Will you be using a 3T crank or aiming for the 84mm race 4T crank? You can buy the 84mm cranks aftermarket from the UK but aren't cheap (roughly $1500-$2000 from memory). I have a 84mm crank tucked away for a 4tgte build one day and have looked into it a bit. The race rods are the same length as 3sgte ones so longer than the 3T ones. The tricky thing with this build is that the race block is 10mm higher than the stock 3tgte block and is a special casting. These are very hard to acquire but can be had if you want to spend lots of coin.

The WRC car with the 4tgte is the TA64. The TA63 has the 3tgte

When dealing with BRD just go through a third party/friend and have it forwarded on. I buy stuff from US and Japan like this all the time.

From the USA to NZ you can use the NZ Post re-mailing service. You get the supplier to ship to the NZ Post "Youshop" address in Oregon and they on-forward it to NZ and deliver to your door. Does not bypass the taxman though. I have used them, and while they are not particularly cheap, you can get goods from suppliers that will not ship outside the USA for any reason.
