    Default 1JZ alternators

    Hi Guys,

I am sure this has been covered but to save me trolling through pages I thought I might ask the question again here quickly.
I have acquired a 1JZ from a JZA70 that is more or less complete and what I dont have I should be able to chase down. In regard to the alternator are these in the same location on all the non VVTI 1J's? As in would I be able to get one from a JZZ30? I understand they have different style plugs on the back (round or oval) but aside from this are the location and set up identical?

    Cheers guys,

    Andy.

Yep...all the same on non vvti...2JZ is also same...(in fact with a 5mm spacer washer, a 7M alternator will bolt in!) Output varies slightly, but all will work.
As you are aware, plugs vary....

    Thanks for the information
Also as ive discovered it doesnt appear to have a tensioner bracket of any kind, simply bolts to the block and water pump which is good.
Does anyone know if this changes at all if you get rid of the hydro Water pump and upgrade to the newer style one of the 2JZ?

Correct. There is no tensioner bracket, the alternator is rigidly mounted, and the serpentine belt has a tensioner.
The belt size may change when swapping to a later non-hydro fan set up (2JZ-GTE water pump I believe) but the tensioner set up remains the same...
