    Default 22re turbo help

Hi all im turbocharging my 22r now converted 22re from a carona with the non vaccum advance dizzy.....my biggest issue is i want to run a aftermarket ecu and (seqential injection)..now ive had aftermarket ecu's on other turboed cars but they all had dizzys with cas sensor/360 sensor inside dizzy....now the 22re dizzy just has the one sensor that when the 4 blades pass it tells the igniter to work? and i dont think it knows where tdc is?...what have people done to the dizzy to make sequential injection work...or if seqential is to much hassle do i still need a tdc/home signal point to run batch fire through a aftermarket ecu?

    Hi there mate,
What you can do is install a crank trigger wheel and sensor assembly on the crank pulley (or harmonic balancer if it has one of them) and use the dizzy sensor as the cam angle sensor to provide the TDC reference.
You can buy 36:1 multitooth wheels from a number of places including diyautotune.com off the top of my head.
To use the dizzy as cam angle sensor you simply grind off 3 of the 4 blades leaving just a single blade which the ecu can use to determine a full 720 degrees of crank rotation.

    Cheers,

To go sequential on my 2TG I sent performance ignition in Melbourne my standard dizzy and measured the clearances around it. With that information they found a suitable CAS to mate to the 2TG shaft, which in my case was from a RX7 series 5. It is probably the easiest way to go about it but it wasn't cheap at $600-700. It'll make a reliable sequential/direct fire setup. Trigger wheels and crank mounted magnets are a cheaper option but the sensors are mounted on brackets open to the elements making them more susceptible to failure and damage.

    Cheers, Alex

Thanks for replying guys...i should have mentioned i still want to keep the dizzy cap and lead setup if i can its only going to be running very little boost pressure so stock ignition system should be fine....and being a 4wd im not sure how the crank trigger on harmonic balancer would cope with mud/water ect ect..... now another thing i have noticed on the 22re dizzy it has a extra single blade higher up which does nothing? Ill post a pic up so everyone understands what im talking about..im going to spend a day at the wreckers tomoro trying to find a suitable sensor off some car to modify to it...so in saying this if i get a tdc reference from dizzy (new found top blade)and use the existing magnetic sensor that tells igniter to fire on each cylinder..is this all i will need to make her work?

That last picture is a pretty poor execution.

What I did with mine is get a 22re dizzy from ebay out of the States. Moved the sensor up onto the other side so that it reads off the single blade rather than the four blades.

Just requires some thinking and two more holes.

You can see it in this picture of a 4AGE base - http://s55.photobucket.com/user/plat...ild13.jpg.html

So what I did is effectively move the sensor on the left to the location on the right in the picture above. The 22re did not actually use that upper blade. But it does now for me and what I am using it for.

I also got my own 36-1 CAS setup laser cut for that signal.

I then bought one of these - http://www.sq-engineering.com/upgrad...ing-cover.html

from Sam Q and now the Dizzy is done and clean.

If you are going to run aftermarket ECU don't bother using the dizzy for spark. Go to the packs etc.

PS RAAAH23's setup is a great way to go as well
