Thats interesting ,Maybe the lower comp pistons are not as tall. The N/A 2 J vvti is deffinatly interference , when you do the timing belt on any of the jz engines ,do the idler and tensioner too .
This info is ripped from mkivsupra.com, but since they're the best english-speaking source of vvti info, I trust them!
2jz-gte, both non-vvti AND vvti are NON-interference. This changes for the vvti engines (and, debatably, for the non-vvti) if greater than 272 degree cams are installed.
Also, the procedure for changing the JZA80 vvti timing belt is the same as for the lexus IS300.

yeah, GE vvti is interference.
the tensioner is what died, so it's definitely getting replaced![]()
so the 2JZ-GTE vvt-i are not - inteferenceOriginally Posted by cambelt1

hm... i thought all 2JZs were non-inteference.. or at least all toyota with Yamaha made heads are non-inteference...
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
there's been rumours flyuing around about all vvti 2jzs being interference.. as dave said, 2jz-ge vvti is definitely interference
Non interference below 272 degree cams, but what lift? I've heard 272/9.3 can make them interference...
don't know - I'm offering 2nd hand info here
www.mkivsupra.net if you really want to find out - they're great
Yes i have seen the result of a tensioner gone bad at 160000klm on a gs 300 , i think we had to order 9 valves from toyota to fix the head .
the oil leaks out of the tensioner and they go sloppy.
