Silvertop not firing!

Hi guys,

I have a 4age silvertop in the garage that's been sitting there for a few years unrun and (to be honest) unloved. I've now got it mounted and trying to get it started. It will crank OK but will not get spark - nothing is coming from the igniter.

Is there any diagnostic pages that the kind folks might be able to point me to in order to troubleshoot?

The engine is intended to go into a clubman/lotus-7 style car. I had a custom loom made and have had the engine started previously so I know it <should> be fine, but I'm at my wits end trying to get it going again.

Any help would be appreciated..

I have struck this a few times in those type of cars,
and it is something that is never stated on a wiring diagram.

The case of the igniter is part of the circuit, and so the igniter must be mounted to a steel bracket which is earthed.


May pay to check that.

These things are dead easy to fire up, plug the ECU into the harness and splice in power and earths to a bunch of spots and off they go.
So on that note, would be making sure everything is plugged in and that you have the power feeds and earths sorted.

Wiring diagram and 10 minutes with a multimeter will be of more help than us guessing at the moment.
