Default GT 35/40/R series for your 7MGTE?

    WhatThe,
Did i read on one of your posts your about to buy a GT series for your 7M?
Cant find it now. You said you had pretty much ordered it and just had to pay and pick-up?

Where are you getting it through and which model did you settle on? Did you get them to spec it cause there are soooooooo many options for our engine with all the different compressors and multiple options for A/R sizing?

    And ofcourse how much $$$?

Anyone else have any edcent info at a gt setup for 7m?

    Paul

    I have a GT3540R on my 2JZ.
    Front housing 0.7 A/R
    Rear housing 1.06 A/R

Positive boost begins at 2000rpm in "normal" weather, and ~1800rpm on a cold night.
Full boost (my external gate has a 14psi spring) is achieved by mid-late 3000rpm range.
I am using HKS 264 degree cams.

For a 3 litre engine, I recommend this setup. If you want lightning response, you should probably opt for the 0.86 rear housing.

With my setup, I achieved 345kW at the rear on a standard 1JZ PowerFC base map, with increased boost (1.85 bar) being the only thing changed. Not too shabby at all I'd say.

    Hi Paul,

I decided on the GT35R mainly because it spools a lot quicker than the non-ball bearing equivalents (which are mainly T4 flanged and REAL big). The A/Rs on the one I got are .70 compressor (standard I believe across all variants) and .82 turbine. This combo + ball bearings means nice fast spool with minimal lag due to reasonably small turbine A/R and good max boost due to nice big compressor A/R. This unit is apparently good for about 600HP and is externally gated.
I was originally looking at the internally gated version but the only option for turbine A/R is 1.06 and that would have made it too laggy IMO.
I got mine for 1200 on ebay brand new, the externally gated ones retail for about $1850 and the internally gated for $2100 or thereabouts.

    Hope this helps,
    Matt

Yep, plus it has the garrett plate on the turbine, came in a garrett box and had a receipt from GCG. The dude who was selling it bought it for $1850 then crashed his car b4 he had a chance to put it on

Probably not entirely relevant to your question, but still on the GT35/40R Turbo. I just fitted one to my fully engineered 22R-E. I also chose the biggest housings available with a 0.7 A/R front housing and a 1.06 A/R rear housing ratted to 700hp externally gated offcourse. Being a ball baring turbo and as I know my custom exhaust manifold was very efficient, with short 1.5 inch pipes, I assessed that this would be a good balance between lag and the air flow I was looking for.
The turbo characteristics experience so far, having only driven the car a few times shows the boost comes on at about 1600rpm steadily increasing until about 7-10psi at about 2800rpm where the fun begins all the way to my set 25psi at about 5200rpm. My engine limiter is set to 6400rpm but I usually swap cogs between 5500-6000rpm.
Keep in mind that the above characteristics are on a relatively inefficient engine without a great rev range. At 25psi the best we have achieved is 318rwhp before my head gasket problems began. If the ARP head studs I have coming can do a better job of seal the copper head gasket I am hoping for an increase closer to 350rwhp without upping the boost excessively.
I hope you can get anything out of the above information, but basically, the GT35/40R is a very efficient turbo capable of producing allot of air flow, mine sits there on idle spinning away quite fast.

That are a nice turbo, but they have a pretty big exhaust housing and i think they are ratted at over 800hp. Great if you can get it spinning though.

meh i got a china crap T70 off ebay that makes 280rwkw on 24psi and cost 5/10th of stuff all

id love a nice t04z, anyone want to give me one?
