Well, it's been a few years since I've been on toymods, but I'm very happy to be back. After DIY building a 4AGZE AE93, then a haltech tuned 4age KE70 I somehow ended up with a 92 subaru liberty with 320,000kms on the clock doing granny laps of my neighbourhood. I don't know what happened to be honest. Age I guess. Anyway the old boat anchor EJ22 engine finally let go at an admirable 327,000kms by popping a head gasket on the freeway and it was time to upgrade to a new car. Something reliable this time; a newer car, with room for a tow ball and roof racks. Four door practicality etc.
So I got 1990 MK3 Supra, converted to manual 1JZ, with 18" fatty rims. I'm seriously going to strap a kayak to the roof this weekend and see how it goes

Anyway, very excited to finally own a legendary 1J. It's an early gen (no vvti), factory turbo's, 3" straight exhaust, and an FMIC. That's it. Turbo seals are on the way as it's burning a bit of oil at idle, nothing at startup. It pulls hard and I am in love with this engine already. I think it has an in-tank aftermarket fuel pump as it's very loud and I can easily hear it running standing outside the car.
Look I know a million people have asked about upgrade pathways etc, but you know what, there is surprisingly SHIT information out there in terms of finding a comprehensive, logical full-write-up on how to upgrade the 1JZGTE. I mean where the hell is the Bill Sherwood (http://www.billzilla.org/4agstock.htm) guide to the 1J? All I'm finding is snippets of crappy old forum posts from teenagers trying to wind the crap out of the factory turbo's and get 400hp. If there is a comprehensive guide out there, please link me to it. Otherwise I'd love to hear your opinions on my suggestions below.
Goal: reliable 500hp from a 1J
Pathway:
Fuel pump (assuming already upgraded)
FMIC (DONE)
Exhaust (DONE)
Sard 1000cc injectors
Haltech sprint 500 (good value stand alone EMS with inbuilt 1.5Bar MAP sensor)
Quality single turbo conversion such as this one: Garrett GTX30 + turbosmart BOV + 6boost manifold (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toyota-1j...item19f72ff67d)
I'm advised to forget SAFC's because they don't allow adequate (any) ignition timing control, so it's better to just go a full EMS.
Also - do all the manual toyota 1JZ's come with the famous R154 or could I have some other Gbox? W58??

Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
All manual JZA70 came with R154.
Your on the right track Mods wise. Fuel->exhaust->ECU->clutch->brakes->Suspension should make it plenty fast.
Take a photo of the box and people should be able to identify what you got.
