Sounds like you don't have 12V going to the starter solenoid. Try taking 12V directly from the battery to the solenoid clip with a test wire, and see if the starter cranks. If it does, you may have a problem with the key switch.

Heya, having problems with the gz20. Recently fixed all the problems replaced high tensions, spark plus, air filter, was running like a dream for a couple of days. Took it for a short drive one night, nothing strenuous, went to drive it in the morning. Nothing. Engine wont turn over, all lights and electrics seem to be fine, but when I turn the key the engine is unresponsive. There is a single clicking noise which im pretty sure is the relay in the engine bay and a shhh noise probably coming from the fuel rail but no movement.
Im completely stumped, cant imagine the starter motor would have conked out of the blue (not quite sure how to test it), cant imagine it would be seized either as the last drive was just a short easy run. Any ideas where to start looking/possible problems would be great.
Cheers.

1G starters are pretty temperamental when it comes to getting 12v to the starter motor, i've had to put relays on the solenoid circuit on a few so it gets a good solid 12v signal.
The 18R-G. The GOOD 2 Litre Tractor motor.
Yay, back working again. Turns out it was a faulty connection, not enough power getting through, tightened everything up and is running perfectly again. Now to make her look pretty again. Cheers for the help guys!
