Eh, I would weld it in situ if the cover doesn't come off easily but I think it should.
So I just did a engine swap in my daily camry MCv20R got it all backing and running and the gear box is dropping oil like no tomorrow.
I assume that it is the drive shaft seal, I crawl under and find this...
and the is a hairline crack on the left
So I cleaned up the surfaces and covered them all in Toyota sealant.
The question is will it hold, Is there a bearing mount right behind that part of the case that will place load on and try and open the cracks up further.
If the cracks continue to leak, do I
A: Give no farks and keep driving with stuff all oil in G/box like I was before the engine swap
B: Can I replace the housing with it all in the car?
C: Can I find another gearbox.... This is not going to happen I'm not going to pull the engine g/box again. If this is the case I will be doing "A".
Bear in mind car is 2002 Camry with 270 on the clock. Should I have replaced the engine maybe not...

There are no bearings in the end cap, it is just a cover for 5th gear.
JB weld it![]()

JB Weld is a 2 pack epoxy. Give the housing a good cleanup to get the oil off first. Locktite primer works well to clean it up.
I will vouch for JB weld also. Good product.
for a quick fix i would also go for JB weld.
Any idea why it broke?
If it was kicked around or dropped, then the Toyota sealant will be good enough.
If 5th gear is held on with a nut that's backing off & punching it out, it'll have to be taken apart & fixed.
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
yeah I worked out it must not of liked the love from the soft face hammer as I tried to drive it into the clutch and on to the back of the engine by myself.
Was a big soft face...
its held up with a 500km on it now, there is still a slight weep, which I still have to find but it looks good so far really
