How do I post images in threads?

I have tried to ost images in threads on two occasions without success. Both times had to reduce file size, when file reduced to allowed size message would say items over size.
I photographed workshop manuals for required instructions, other member required. If I cant find easy way to attach images can't give help.
What is the procedure?

Best way is to upload to an external image hosting site such as Photobucket, then copy/paste the direct link into a post here with

[img][/img]

tags around it
