Default ra28/23 easy and cheap H4/H1 headlight conversion.

    hi.
I know this has been done before, but in 4 easy steps this can now be achieved easily and relatively cheap.
This allows you the still use your normal head light switches with no change in operation.

step 1. Buy off ebay at $59.65 delivered from USA.
You get H4/H1 headlight relay wiring harness with 4 ceramic socket plugs (can advise seller on request)

step 2. Buy off ebay at $75.00 delivered from Aust seller.
2 x H4 type semi sealed beams and 2 x H1 semi sealed beams all with rear boots. (again can advise you seller )

step 3. buy your choice of H4 and H1 globes, anywhere.

step 4. Remove all old sealed beams and replace with the new semi sealed with globes fitted.
Connect the new wiring harness main plug to the old H4 plug on the passengers side and feed the rest of the harness under the radiator, out of sight.
Plug the new ceramic plugs into the back of each new beams. H4 into the H4 and H1 into the H1.
Mount the relays on the car near the battery, connect the red power wire to the battery terminal and you will find there's 4 earth wires to connect, from each globe and your done.
So easy . see some of my pics below.

    Hi,

Nice, but you can also use hi-lo beams in all light fittings, so you can run all four headlights together in lo beam. Gives a lot of light and is legal.

i guess you can, just that the semi sealed i bought were H1 globe fitting only.
so i could've got 4 x H4 semi sealed and lit up the neighbour hood.

but a problem would have been the harness i bought, had 2 H4 AND 2 H1 plugs.
you can get them in 4 H4 i believe, to achieve your suggestion.

    cheers

    Hi,

Yes, you need to make sure your harness is capable of running quad lights full time in hi-beam (for worse case load).

Amusing thing is other cars see your lights and notice all 4 blazing. Sure they're bright as they're H4s but all low beam. So they flash their hi beam lights at you. That's when you flash yours back, burning the skin from their face and they understand what real brightness is about (when those 4 babies are all on hi beam)

i've yet to test them at night and see the drain if any from the battery.
But in my case, i have under constuction the Ford 85AMP alternator waiting to go in.
    That should complete the conversion.

And with a little searching you can swap the plugs over for other ones that will allow up to 100W for added solar flare impersonation.

    Thanks Omegaman!

    Hi,

Yep, you'll certainly need some grunt in the alternator department.

The old Celica alternators are okay for stock, but when you start adding extra headlight illumination and in the case of my car the fuel pumps, ECU, electric fan etc, the stock alternator is left wanting. I got a 115amp Land Rover Discovery alternator which I can use to run the house if needed.

    Hi,

It's a tight fit. But what do you expect in an RA28 engine bay with an 18R-GTE with custom manifold, big fuck-off alternator, 15inch electric fan (with no more than 2mm clearance to the engine!) and air con pump. At the front end is the radiator, oil cooler, intercooler and air con condensor.

The alternator fits pretty good actually. Just needed a bit of work on the mounting bracket.

But yeah... not much room left. Dunno where I'll put the pizza oven and mini gun.

    Glove box.

Although that is probably full of gloves so that you can lay on a bit of face slapping to impertinent young people.

Perhaps next to the good silverware in the back?

    2. Install pizza oven in spare wheel well
    3. ???
    4. Profit!

As for real retina burning powah, I have opted for quad hi/lo HID baby! That's going to make OMR's H4s look dull
