careful porting, and a multi-angle valve job
Im rebuilding the original engine out of my celica and i want to put 3T internals in it, the block needs to be bored out to 86.5mm, i know i need to grind some metal to get the 3t crank to fit, im assuming i still use the 3t rods?
I want to have a lumpy cam in it aswell, can anyone recommened a good grind for the street? im sending my stock cam to clive cams to do it as hes the closest to me.
Cheers
Callum

the head wont be touched as i dont have enough funds to touch the top end
Then you are wasting your time and efforts. The head is the key to getting the most power out of it. A great valve job and port and polish will increase flow and yes, you are boring the cylinders from 85mm to 86.5 with a matching head gasket. You can use the 3T-B Crank and rods. Make sure you use new cam bearings and have the block flushed and dipped in the hot tank and change those freeze plugs.
If you cheap out now, you will pay later because you have to make sure that head is true with a straight edge. Are you using a better carburetor, or twin Carbs? Lightened Flywheel? Which clutch are you using? And last but not least, rebuild that slave cylinder or replace it after you have changed the fluid in the clutch master cylinder.
My advice is save for what you want and do not disappoint the only person this build is actually gonna impress,...Yourself!
(Can you tell that I use to sell parts in a auto parts store? What else can I get you)

the block has been acid dipped, bored out, decked, new cam bearing, mains and rod bearings, new pistons, same rods, the head has been shaved but thats it, carby is a weber 38, with a stock ported manifold, extractors, full 2 1/4" exhaust, 2tg flywheel (9kgs) i think stock is 12kg, exedy HD clutch thats currently being used at the moment and thats it, im not trying to get huge power just something fun for the street, the cam has been sorted and Clive Cams knows exactly what to do. slave cylinder is new, how come i need to rebuild it or replace it?
Id be wasting my time with the head if i wasnt going turbo, these motors need lots of work and $$$ to get any power N/A unless you go turbo, i have another 2t head that will be getting fully worked once i rebuild my 3tc turbo.
sounds like the block is allready done?
i would at least clean up the head, i did the basics on my N/A 3tc street motor and noted a difference.
if any thing a turbo motor can get away with less head work and the pressure will force it though![]()
no point having a fresh bottomend with say a head with leaking valves, etc.

Just my opinion, since it is not my engine.
at the very minimum... have a 3 angle valve job perfomed... cost should be about $150 for 8 valve.
I'm currently working a 5MG head... and the seats are downright crappy.... I've been told that this is very common on Toyota engines of this time period....

it looks like i forgot to mention that its reco head it looks brand new, it has had a 3 angle valve job you can see it on the seats
The head just is restrictive. It may look that it have big ports but it's just a illusion by looking down the ports!
The head noods the quides be removed, ports properly enlarged, quides re-installed (and while off-the-head modified) and then new seats cut.Not to mention backcutting the valves.
Without removing quides all you can do is just some cosmetic fettling but not any meaningful modification.
You can put all the cam and carb to stock head but it won't perform!
