    hey guys been a while....

like all things with this car seem to take much longer than you think.

anyway, my coilover kit is here, complete with the roller strut tops (very fancy) and 300 lb springs. it was suposed to be welded on yesterday but you know how these things are (if not sure, refer to second line of this post!)

so hopefully they will be welded this week, so i should have some alignment data soonish..

just have to wait for my strut brace to turn up before i fit it all up.... hopefully it will be here this week too.

    Cheers
    Stew

Where did you get the strut brace mate? Is it an actual RA28 one, or S13?

    hey Joel,

yeah its an ra28 one. from whiteline, same as Joels (other joel - bigworm).

as for how well it fits.... will wait and see, but they did use clkwrk as the test vehicle, so hopefully she was nice and straight

there have been some for sale on ebay (search - ra28) but they were the same price, and looked to be the same product as whiteline, so i thought i wold go with the more reliable warrantee, just in case.

    cheers

Were they from a seller named Dave7mgte?? If so, they are probably the whiteline items, he is also selling Gen 1 adjustable panhard rods, look the goods, but if whiteline list them at the same price, I would go with them. I might see if I can get them from Dave at a better price later on, as Ive bought quite a bit of gear off him so far.

Once this setup has been completed, the first post in this thread should be changed with a full list of parts, prices, suppliers and issues, so all can see how it fits together.

    G'day,

yeah it was from that guy - dave7mgte. i must say i have had nothing to do with this guy and have no reason to think him in anyway not reliable (if that was in anyway how my previous post came across.)

Your suggestion, re prices etc. has been duelly noted....... but as i said before it could be a while at the rate i move with this car....

    Cheers

Dave is a great bloke, and Sleeka Spares that he runs has good parts available. Hes only been too helpful to me, and always throws in an item or 2 for nix when I make a purchase. For example, I ordered my RA23 genuine seal set off him today, he is posting tomorrow, and threw in a great condition black interior light, with brand new genuine lense for nothing.

But, I would opt for the better warranty myself if the price difference is negligible, so I completely agree with your previous post and in no way thought it was harsh on dave.

Default Koni Adjustables now available for 1st Gen Celica's

Just an update; Koni yellows (externally adjustable) are now available for the TA/RA23 and 28. Part number is 86-41319sport. Cost is $400 trade and $600 retail so it's worth getting someone in business to source them for you!

That is very good news, but for lowered cars where springs are starting to become uncaptive you really need to look into a shorter insert.

    Hi,

Do you know how these differ from the 86-1991Sport found in the RA40/Corona? These also go straight into the RA23 strut and are the correct length.

Also, do you have a part number for the Koni Red Rears?

    Cheers,

    Ryan

    FINALLY RESULTS!!!!!

i had the car wheel aligned today.

when it went in i had the camber set at the maximum that it would go.

the machine read it as 2.4 degrees both sides. remember i do have the t3 coilovers as well.

so Joel looks like there is an alternative for you.

i asked to set it up for handling - and they took alot of the camber out only runnin bout .2 neg now. i said i would take it for a play and see what i thought - raining up here though so later.

also turns out my caster bushes are shaged - so some new ones required.

what setting are people running for optimum handling?

    Cheers

    Woohoo finally !

2.4 deg nice.. Bit of shame that is the maximum though. I would like something that allowed between say 1deg neg to 4deg neg. But I reckon longer control arms would be needed for that.

    Good settings...

4.5 deg caster passenger (approx depending if it drives straight)
    4 deg caster driver

2 deg camber is a good setting for day to day driving I reckon. Shouldn't notice too much tyre wear at all.

Neutral toe is good. If you have really good firm bushes in the front end (caster rods, control arms) then you could try a little bit of toe out for better turn in. But if you find that is wandering / unstable then neutral should be fine.

    Cheers

If you find that much caster makes the steering a bit too heavy then dial a bit out.. But the more caster the better.
Or go rack n pinion and I find that lightens things up a lot so can run more caster without having to visit the gym.
