id be suprised if they where not the same synnros for both. unless they updated which would be a surprise as there is only a couple of years between boxes!
About to order the synchros to rebuild my E51 box, I've got the BGB part number for them, but I've heard that the E58 synchros are a better upgrade...can anyone confiirm this, and the part number? Would be great...
Cheers, RM.

I was always under the impression that they updated them for the E58 as it was the stronger of the two boxes.

could well be! ive never even thought to look as all mine are 58's! make sense as the extra torque gives them a hard time!
Yeah, I heard that the E58 synchros were better, because the E51 had serious trouble with syncrhos wearing out (like mine did)

lol i was about to ring and check for you with toyota part numbers, then when the phone rang it came to me, just get the 58 ones anyway and you cant go wrong.
I upgraded to the ceramic lined synchros for 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears in my box and it is definitely better.
Here are the part numbers:
1st Synchro 33367-20040 $67.50
2nd Synchro 33367-20060 $70.50
3rd Synchro 33368-20040 $63.00
Awesome man, that's exactly what I was looking for. Time for a chat with my local toyotaman!
Cheers, RM.
Actually, I think that 1st synchro is still just a brass type (no ceramic lining). But you don't really need it on 1st anyway...
the sintered (ceramic lining as you say) ones are not a final answer either. they start breaking up after about 50,000km . most of the problem is the oil people fill these boxes with. the older all-bronze syncros require GL4 grade oil. if you put in modern GL5 oil they will just slip and not work, as its too slipery.
