drill and tap bigger threads
also if the threads aren't completely fucked you can get a thread cleaner from supercheap/rapeco which may restore the thread if is isnt completely fucked.
Dudes,
Possibly due to over-tightening, I have managed to strip the thread on one exhaust manifold bolt hole and several intake manifold bolt holes. GZE motor.
Now, the best fix would be to drop the motor, weld up and re-tap the threads.
What permanent solution/options do I have without dropping the motor? Permatex make a re-thread product that would probably work for the intake side, but surely not on the exhaust manifold due to heat.![]()

I am afraid the threads in question are completely fubared.
Hmm I wonder if this can be done in car? Very tight area even with the turbo and manifold off.drill and tap bigger threads
heli coil..
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
heli coil x2
Yep, Another good option, but probably impossible to do in the AW11 engine bay. Ill take some measurements to see if I can get a drill up in that area. I reckon I will hit the firewall.
Intake side, lots of room...
see if anyone has a right angle pneumatic drill. that would fit in there easily.

Sometimes you can be lucky enough in that there might be some more thread Further down inside the stripped hole & if so you can get a longer bolt & fit it ..
I think if you have damaged that many I'm sure you are getting to heavy handed on the bolts / nuts, I would think it would pay you to buy a tension wrench so you don't go down this path again for your sake & you will also get a feel for how tight certain bolts should be done ..
build up the screw with teflon tape until its a fecking tight fit
Dont listen to me
Nah seriously helicoils are good, so is retapping a bigger thread
take the head off and fix it correctly....
Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
Id prefer to drop the whole motor. Sigh. In the interim, I might see if I can set a stud in there (exhaust) Cheers.
if there's no room to heli-coil it, then you have no choice but drop the motor or take the head off.
removing the motor only costs you fluids. taking the head off will cost you more (head gasket as a minimum).
SHEPPO..
Helicoil intake side. See if you can get a bit of allthread into the exhaust side as a stud. Maybe there is some non-rooted thread at the bottom of the hole.
Worth a try before dropping the engine.
I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
Thanks Guys
