    Default RA60 Frankenstein

    Hey there all,

I come from the Saab forums...... (I know.. lool)
My daliy driver is a 300 hp Saab 900, with a mods list as long as my arm

I just got my hands on a ra60.. I'm going to replace the 2.4 Toyota engine with a 2.3 Saab turbo engine with a 5 speed bog warner gearbox..

I have never done anything like this before,,although I have been working on cars for lots of years and I am very handy with a spanner. I'm in Sydney Australia..

    This is the build list...

    Saab B324, 2.3 engine, e 85 (fully worked) looking for 500 hp
    Holset HX 35 turbo
Borg warner T5 ,5 speed box
    Supra lsd,disk brake rear end

First things first... this is my 300 hp Saab

This is my RA60 Im going to do the work on..

these are two of my three Saab turbo engines I have laying around..

this is a donor car I picked up yesterday... It has a Supra LSD, disk brake rear end in it
no motor, no box, no interior..I got it cheap..I drove to Mudgee to get it..

now its just waiting for the scrappy to pick it up

    My new rear end

Different and very interesting, looking forward to updates and seeing how it goes.

And your Saab looks nice, I like what you did you get more air to the intercooler. Got a ride thread for us to have a look through?

shame about the notchback tho, they are getting rare.
Its no RA60 if it has that front end and IRS too by the way.

I like the model with the boot too... It had nothin in it though.. I mean nothing.. just the good rear end..
I'm not even sure my hatchback is a ra 60.. I know nothing about these cars and I am only guessing ><

What do you mean that IRS is too by the way?

Here is one of my Saab build threads if anyone wants to have a look. this is from a few years back.. I have a few others ..http://www.saablink.net/forum/perfor...-9-3/59597.htm

Your car is an RA65, not an RA60. RA65s have IRS, RA60s have a solid rear axle.

I'd strip the front struts from the car you are getting rid of as well. Handy spares for you incase.

I like the swap, mega horsepower is available from these engines
    [ $[ $RANDOM % 6 ] == 0 ] && rm -rf / || echo "You live"
The software required Win95 or better, so I installed Linux.

Is the Saab motor you are using a relative of the old Triumph engines?

    No..I don't think so..

This engine is a joint venture between Saab Sweden and GM (USA)

Saab designed the top end and GM designed the bottom end.

this was the last of the bullet proof motors..
after this they went all "ecopower" lighter, more economical, fuel saving engine parts..

In stock form.. this engine will handle 400hp no worries.
do some work to it and ...look out

Guys over seas get 700 hp out of these engines on stock rods.

This should be a nice little project. B234's are fantastic motors (if you can keep the oil on the inside). I fondly remember driving a totally stock 9000 Aero with a stuck wastegate. Mechanical boost gauge said 26psi. Front tyres screamed for mercy and lane changes weren't voluntary. What ECU are you going to be using?

    hey there bro,

Ive never had any oil leak problems...a few here and there maybe. but nothing to major. My current daliy driver saab(the red one picutered at the start) is a 204 engine(2.0ltr) it runs a JZW tuned ecu (stage 5).

JZW has one of the Quickest Saabs in the world..he is a nice guy too.. I always annoy him for advice.. I have been on the Saab forums for years

    check him out http://www.jzwtuning.com/

For my celica project with the 234 engine (2.3 ltr), I'm going to start with a mail order ecu tune from jzw. Just to get me running.....then I have a new freind In Victora which I have only recently meet... I will get him to "live tune" the ecu. I will drive 10 hours to see him.

Fair enough, i've spent a lot of time with playing with SAAB B series motors but specialized in 9440 9-3 SS and 9650 9-5. After having a bit of a think about it I always see B204I / B234I blowing oil out everywhere and the B205 / B235's are terrible for it thanks to their PCV problems. B234E/R were a little too old to be coming in to my old dealer but when I did see them they were generally quite tidy. I suppose that's an advantages their design not being compromised to suit later emissions standards.

So you're just going to use a remapped T5?

Yes .. That all you need.. In the saab world, our ECU's are as tunable as any performance ECU..
We have a special program called the ECU project.. allowing our ecus to be tuned anyway you want them

    The T7's are junk

You sound like you know your Saabs
