Default TA27 Celica 2TG not starting - points & converted to electronic ignition.

Hello All, I have a Jap spec Ta27 1972 Celica RHD, the points went out and converted to electronic ignition. so now the car does turn on but as soon the ignition key is let go it shuts off, stumped what this is there is a loud clicking noise from the passenger side under dash area. will make a vid but i'm thinking this is sort of a ignitor or something any help would be gr8.

I vote for some kind of aftermarket security system ignition immobilizer. There are no relays, flasher cans or anything (fitted to the passenger side) that could possibly make those noises and cause this problem in a standard fitout RHD Celica.

    cheers Chuck.

Re-check your wiring as said above.

It sounds like you have wired the ignition lead to the starter position on your loom so that when you let go of the key as the engine starts it kills the ignition. It's been done before.....by me!

Sounds like it could be a ballast resistor problem. You can bridge that temporarily.
If it looks like I think it would the resistor is a rectangular ceramic thing attached to the coil.
If you are using the original points coil with a factory type electronic ignition you can have problems there too.
Also the fuse for the ignition system if it blows could give you this one as well.
Coil is powered from the start circuit for less volt drop on cranking then dropped to the coil through the ballast resistor to reduce the energy/ heat in the coil whilst the engine is running.
So will have crank voltage whilst cranking +-12v and ballasted voltage whilst running +- 8V.
    I'm just rambling here
    Hope that helps.

I suspect as has been said it could be that the ballast resistor is still wired in the circuit & that the voltage drop across it is to much for the New ignition system, possibly it Now needs 12 volts or as close to all the time ?? ..
