no they are not. shifter position is different between the 2 boxes as well
just chasing clarrification that these are identical bar the front bell? if anyone know for sure?
no they are not. shifter position is different between the 2 boxes as well
position is different, but the arse of the box is actually the same.... it has 2 positions to accomodate the two engine positions...
according to toyodiy they have the same part number for the gear casing, as far as i can tell thats the middle section of the box.
Bellhousing section of the box is not removeable, limits applications for us modders. I believe that the box is also used by Mazda, again with a totally different front section/bellhousing.

the bell and front of the box is cast as one, so you cant swap bells as such.
but if i can swap the front cast section between the models, then i am in slightly less drama lol
actually LEEN has developed a front section that accommodates a 4A bell housing... It fits ALL the AZ6 models... (Mazda Miata 99-05, RX8 same period, S15-GTR, as well as the 2 versions from Toyota

Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
so the leen conversion front covers all the models in one or is available to suit all the models? because visually the s15 middle section and toyota front section are not in any way able to be swapped...
The Toyota version is the unicorn... the Toyota box is beefier, and has a slightly different bolt pattern... BUT the LEEN covers both bolt patterns.
You can see this in the photo below (ignore the top photo that is the Honda S2000 which is NOT an AZ6) The second photo down is the Toyota, third is a Mazda Miata, and bottom is the S15. Note the rib, or spine on top of the center egg crate section of the Toyota box... note the spine is missing from the Nissan and Mazda boxes
Here is an interesting photo.. a Nissan front section mounted to a Mazda RX8 box. The Nissan logo can be seen 2 egg crate sections forward of the missing bolt
