Default Urgent request - Photo of JZX81 1JZ Power steering hoses

    Hi Forum,

Years ago, I built my MX83 Cressida running a 1JZ donated by a JZX81 half-cut (with much credit to these forums for the assistance at the time).

Yesterday I took the high-pressure power steering line to my local Pirtek to get the weeping flexible sections replaced. Unfortunately, they stuffed up and put the wrong length sections in. They have a long section of flex on the rack end and a short section on the pump end. I am certain that it is meant to be the other way around. Stupidly, I didn't take a photo before they hacked it up (to be fair, I've never had Pirtek make such a major *@c#-up before).

Sooo ... does anybody have a decent photo of the standard power steering hoses on a 1JZ? Preferably one from a JZX81. Or, as a backup, measurements of the two flexible sections and where they belong.

It would be great if I could show them a photo to demonstrate what they need to do to correct the problem.

As a supplementary question - does anybody know what the 'joiner-like' object is that is located about 1/4 of the way along the flex section nearest the pump?

    Thanks in advance :-)

    Cheers,
    Adam

Edit PS ... yes, I have already spent a fair bit of time trolling through images on the net, but to no avail :-(

    Hey Adam,

Here are some photos from my conversion so hopefully that will help you out, got a heap more of the conversion in my ride thread if interested. If you need measurements, I will try my best to get some off the car (cant lift it at the moment so cant get underneath). Though I am not sure what you mean by the joinder section near the pump so do you have a photo to show what you mean?

JZX81 is on left (other one is old crossmember from conversion) - cant see the other side well but gives a clear shot of the one going to the pump and how long it is.

Thanks, big_zop - those two shots show what I need perfectly.

Underneath that black curly-wurly protective plastic stuff, mine had what looked like a joiner in the flexible hose. You can part the plastic a little to see it. I've seen it on others too, so I don't think its just a repair. I think there may be one on the shorter flex section too, but it's completely hidden by the heat shielding and insulation.

Edit: the 'joiner' question is not particularly important, it just made me curious. I might retrieve my old hoses and disect one.

    Thanks again.

    Cheers,
    Adam
