run a big mofo cable to the boot i suppose.

i hate doign that stuff to the interior of the car coz i hate how the trim clips work for my cressida, (i allways break stuff) but i am sure it could be run through the chassis rails or something.

if it can be avoided i would just use a small battery, i didnt need to do it with the mx73 so ill just ahve to wait and see

Battery boxes come with mounting straps that screw to the boot floor, pretty simple. I use truck battery cable as it is double insulated and meant for external use. I then wrap it in split conduit and tape it and run it under the car along the chassis rail with P clips. It is desirable to run a full length earth cable but not totally necessary.
Secure, clean earth points are obviously essential though.
I use a junction post at the std battery location to distribute power from the main battery cable to the starter cable and main vehicle power supply. This maintains the factory power feed layout and avoids voltage drop problems during cranking that MAY occur if the cable is mounted straight to the starter. Aftermarket ecu's are particularly susceptible to this problem.

I use DIN batteries in the boot as they are sealed and designed for use inside European cars. They are also built to higher std's than std batteries as they are for cold climate use. A DIN 66(mid way between normal large battery and N70 monster) is about $120.

the other thing i dont like about putting it in tho boot is that you lose some space.

i know the cressie has heaps but i drive interstate frequently and the boot is often very full, such that i would certainly notice the loss.

if i had to i suppose i would make a metal lid for the jack and mount the battery on that, of course the lid would need to be better secured, as it would stiill require removal to access the jack, tools etc, but this would prolly be illegal for a boot mounted battery?

Yes, I was going for a Factory look, but that is NOT the reason why I fitted the smaller Odyysey battery in the engine bay. If anything, having a bright orange battery in the engine bay stands out rather than blends in - It's certainly the first thing the Police have asked about..

The reason I didn't want to go to boot mount at the time

    * Convenience - it was going to be extra hassle to fit the battery and run the cables etc.
    * Space - I carry a lot of camera gear around - and travel interstate at least 6 times per year and I need as much of my boot space as possible.
    * Cost - I was trying to keep my expenses curbed as much as possible and get the car finished..

However, I am now altering a few things around and the Battery HAS to be moved now and I have got myself a Delkor Calcium battery and will be mounting that beside the passengers rear shock tower at the back of the seat (opposite to the ABS computer).

I am fitting a remote mount Oil filter where the Odyysey is currently located and then that will allow me to fit the Thermocouple and Oil Pressure switch for the Defi Guages much easier and make for oil filter changes without having to dump the oil everytime - so I can do oil changes faster and easier..

Im just waiting on a few more items as I am fitting the New Stereo, Speakers and the DEFI-DIN guage basically at the same time.

Naturally, there will be photos taken and posted up if anyone else is contemplating a similar mod so you can see how we did it..

Also, when you put the battery in the boot you can get these batteries that have 2 outlet holes on them and you just plug some rubber hose into them, t-piece into 1 and run that outside the cabin to keep it legal

mos it lookes like you can fit a smaller battery in that space, is there another reason to relocate the battery?
Yep, smaller battery is the plan. I actually don't want to use an Odyssey battery... at nearly $300 IMHO they're a rippoff. If you don't need high CCAs, the Odysseys give little benefit over smaller conventional batteries.

In addition to reasons listed, to boot-mount the battery in a decent location for weight distribution makes it hard to access. If fitted inside a battery box, the battery would need to be fastened to the box, slid under the parcel (projectile) tray, and then the box fastened to the chassis. (Two cars means you access batteries more often ).

$300 for an Odyssey. WTF ??

Mos, you are shopping at the wrong spot.

the 680MJT (what I have) is about $180 and the 925MJT comes in at around $240 retail.. from my enquiries about 2 weeks ago.. (I was thinking of going with a boot mounted 925 - but decided on the Delkor calcium due to the higher Reserve Capacity.

Hmmm $180 I could swallow ... Another member got your size battery for $260 not long ago and that's when I said stuff it Perhaps it needs revisiting - would make things easier!

That's basically how the DIN66 seems to be set up.

I ended up by switching the plug from one end to the other... apparently it can be either end and doesn't need to be both. Then I cut down a 4mm micro irrigation elbow, whacked on a short (5mm long) piece of 3mm ID nylon food grade tubing and ran a file around that to put a taper on it before forcing that into the hole. Seems fairly secure, and just fits between the battery and the box. Then more 3mm between the first elbow and a second elbow where the positive cable leaves the box. Then more 3mm tube following the cable out through a grommet beside the shielding for the rear resonator, and then facing down to the road. I put the second elbow in so that the tube could come off there if the battery in the box needed moving, or removal from the boot. Getting the first elbow in to the hole in the battery was not straight forward once the battery was in its box.

I have just looked up the docket and the DIN66 cost me $145 at Repco. They usually look after us, although there are items where they are not competitive. Perhaps this was one of those. They also carry a DIN55, which from memory was cheaper and about the size of your standard large car battery.

Here's a picture of the battery in box in boot, as done by Al and I.

i would have tghought it would be cheapr to relocate the battery i used earth cable for welders, 3 dollars a meter and the guy crimped on the fittings for free. relocate the fuse box that sits on the battery to the starter motor and run the cable straight off the starter to the boot, neatens things up and is cheap
